Ok Ok...enough fooling around.....the first guy here that can play like this gets the 'circus shredder carnival act' award...take a few hits off the crack pipe before watching this... Hey Jim, Ya know....in this guy's case....I think the ol' Highlander quote really does apply. "There can be only one"....."circus shredder carnival act". No doubt about it. He's a freak of nature!.....An abomination!!!!! And the biggest drawing sideshow of alltime. Unfortunately, I didn't heed your advice and toke up on the crack beforehand. I had seen him (or should i say IT) before. I thought I could handle it. I was wrong.

I have to say though as much as I like dig the techy shred thing, this guy is too boring. Hes not as technical as Gilbert, nor as flashy as Petrucci but he has the neither the taste or feel of either one.. boring.

I think this guy, for what he is, is friggin' incredible...from a speedster standpoint..I've seen many of his videos and it blows me away how someone can play that quickly and accurately..
that being said, I'd rather have a gilbert, impelliteri, or becker on my team because they have a bit more variety...but as far as finger speed goes, this guy's tough to beat....

He's a freaky technical player but I have to agree with Craig, after a song of that I'm bored. Do you think he knows how bad his toupe looks?

Hey! that's his real hair...hehehe...NOT! Let this be a lesson to you all...this is what happens when you mix shredding with the crack pipe...I saw this guy in the late 80s, he was doing the exact same thing...I was asked by a friend of mine (Ken Tamplin) if I wanted to do their Japan tour (Christian Band 'Shout'...about 6 months tour) He asked if I could do 'sweep arpeggios' I said, 'sure'...he asked if I could play them like this guy they have in the studio playin' a few things on one of their albums...Michael Angelo....I said: the painter?...nope...I said I never heard of him....he played me his tracks he did for the album...I said: 'I can't play like that'..'I don't want to play like that'...'and I'm not going to try and play like that'...well, I got a VHS video of his and just LAUGHED all the way through...man , his whole approach to guitar is soooo 'sterile' he's AWESOME that's for sure...but in a 'circus freak' kinda way...I don't think he likes MUSIC... I think he just likes to show off...I couldn't use any of his technique for what I like to play...STILL very funny to watch (to me, I can't watch him without busting up...) he's a NERD to boot...he opens his video up: Hi, I'm Michael Angelo and welcome to my 'hot licks' video...big ol' close-up wearing that silly toupe, he's got, like buck teeth....just a riot! his whole thing is: 'to play fast you have to learn how to play slow'...the only thing more irritating than watching him play fast is watching him breakdown those daisy-chain-linked arpeggios and runs SLOWLY...I agree with you guys! WHO CARES!!! He belongs under the big top instead of on stages...I think...
I like throwing him down as the shredder 'trump card'....he plays more clean notes per 'nano second' than any other shredder on planet earth...my wife kept asking me...'is that for real?' while the video was playing hahahahaha...

I agree with Jimbax on this one.. if thats what happens when you practice too much I'm glad I don't.. LOL. I think you guys are all overating him on the shredding though too,, nobody, I mean nobody is as fast, accurate and technical as Petrucci. And Petrucci has wonderful feel and songwriting skils too. And sorry, hes not even in the same league as Gilbert.

songs are for wussies who can't play lol That maybe true, because I do fit the bill. LOL But I agree with splawnfan. First give me a good song....then give me great guitar playing. Anybody hear the latest Ingwie CD? The songs on that CD suck. (IMHO) I tried to like it, but I can't listen to it.

I agree, a bunch of people told me it was the best Yngwie in years, so I bought it (like I do with all of them) hoping it was different and it wasn't.. great playing terrible songs.
When is dude going to wake up and realize Yngwie fans don't need to hear rehashed Dio tunes, just friggin play guitar and put out an instrumental record PLEEEEEAAASE.

Petrucci is a Berkley grad...he can't be bringing any circus stuff there or the profs would've booted him...most of the 'warm-up' stuff I do for my practicing is from his video...I like the tone he gets though I was NEVER able to get it from the Mesa stuff I owned...
