It's like Yngwie...one mention of him among musicians and all you hear is "he plays fast scales...big deal" or "same 'old dimished and harmonic minor stuff, blah, blah blah..." or "not emotion" etc., etc.
I like to ask people (regarding Yngwie) "have you ever listened to him...I mean really listened to him? I can hear a ton of emotion in what he's playing (as well as conviction). Ever listen to Nicolo Paganini? Was he accused of the same things? (I dunno, but he was accused of selling his soul to the devil.)

Exactly...which brings me back to an earlier post about the subjectivity of music. We either get it or we don't...and I'll be the first to admit when I don't get something. (After you convince me I don't. LOL!!!)

its hard to know our influence though....I have had terrible off nights and people come to me and say that it was the best guitar playing...bla-bla...and then I'll have a night when all cylinders seem to be workin' and people will say: what happened, you seem off tonight...go figure, I just go out and jam...the chips fall wherever they will fall!

That guitar player from POISON.....Cadillac Deville or something like that...looks like Marilyn Monroe got whacked in the face with a 2 X 4....yea, that guy....he is OVER RATED!!!!!! Saw Warren De Martini (or whatever) from ratt, a few times in LA before they got signed, a TOTAL EVH wannabee, nobody respected him....he tried to cop Eddies and G Lynch's stage style... I thought he could play though (like Eddie that is...)
BTW: I have Richie Sambora's solo album...he gets great tone, good solid player (decent song writer..not an EGO shredder type..)...SLASH is better than MOST people give him credit for...

I've heard that album as well..and I like his acoustic sound and voice..but his guitar playing is pure vanilla.. yeah, he's solid..but he never did thing one to show me that he can hang with some of the other guys that have been mentioned... I dunno..I think Ego and Shredder get lumped in together too much..yngwie? yes...ego shredder...a guy like, john norum? nope..he uses speed when it fits, not all the time...his phrasing is phenominal.... I also think it goes the other way around too...rather than ego shredder..people who do nothing but 'safe' stuff get labeled as 'melodic'...my buddy always used to us that as an out..'oh, I can't do all this technical stuff, but I'm melodic'...melody IS a technique...to me, that'as just a cop out for peopel who usually can't play =) That guitar player from POISON.....Cadillac Deville or something like that...looks like Marilyn Monroe got whacked in the face with a 2 X 4....yea, that guy....he is OVER RATED!!!!!!
