since we've been talkin' about alotat guys who we think are overrated..here's a few on MY list..and sincei t's MY list, you know it to be the whole truth and nothin' but the truth..heheh
Richie Sambora...people make a big deal out of bonjovi as a whole, but aside from some relativly catchy songs, this guy never did anything to impress me, lead OR rythm wise...sure, lots of people say that dimartini and lynch were in hair bands..but listen to their skill and how thoughtful the approach was when they played their instrument...I think their leads alone speak for themselves...sambora was never more than an average blues kinda guy to me....GREAT GREAT GREAT singer though! I will give him that..
Kirk Hammet...I'm probably the most outspoken hammet hater on the internet...how can you be playing for 25+ years, have all kinds of great equpiment over the years, be professionally produced by some of the best in the business and STILL have some of the most boring leads ever put down on DAT is beyond me...this guys been rehashing the same blues triads for nearly three decades....not to mention his wire thin tone....god awful..and that vibrato? sounds like he's have a seizure.....people live and die by this guy (and metallica as a whole, I swear it's a cult) but I don't see it..to me, it's FACT that he blows...lol
Joe Perry...just a blues guy with a marshall and a les paul...has written some pretty cool tunes, especially back in the day..but when soemone told me 'joe perry's one of the best guitarists you'll ever hear', I had to laugh..
B.B. King..ok, another blues guy (andI have nothing against blues) but I think he's worn out the middle register of his guitar...there's 22 frets, guy =) if I wanna hear blues, I wanna hear it right...I'll listen to SRV..now there's a guy who got it!!
Slash...he's good at what he does, and there is an element of 'organized chaos' to his rythm playing (listen to the first G n R album...listen to izzy's side and listen to his..there's alotta extraneous chinka-chinka stuff goin' on there) but I never really dug his style or thought he was one to die over...
I'm sure there's about a hundred others that I'm forgetting righ tnow...lol
that is all
end of line
