Oh yeah, I've met them a bunch of times ,,also prior to that show. Anytime any 80's band comes through town we either open for them, they come to our shows after,,, Or we end up hanging out in one form or another. You know the guitar player from Slaughter and the sound engineer from Warrant, Cinderella, Ratt, Dokken, La Guns, they also run sound and book our band, so we hang in alot of the same circles even though were only "B" circuit.

Wow all those guys are still playing?? I didn't think half of those bands would be together anymore. Is FL a popular place for 80's bands? We get occasional shows up here in NJ that I see. I've seen ads for Ratt, Stryper, Yngwie Wankstein, and alot of Sebastion Bach. I'm sure our backstage lounge won't be anything like theirs are! I don't like those bands but I gots to give some credit in that dept!

Sure they're still playing and most are doing real well on the B circuits. You know its funny because back in the day I didn't like those bands either, I was into more progressive stuff but now I see bands like LA guns and Whitesnake with Doug Aldrich playing guitar and it theres just no comparison to the NU Metal bands. These guys are just killing nightly and the level of musicianship in those 80's bands is so much higher than the chugga chugga de-tuned crap out nowadays.
I would love to see the dude from Linkin Park attempt to play anything past the 5th fret much less an Ozzy solo... heck even CC Deville is a virtuoso compared to alot of the bozos I see in Nu Metal.

I couldn't agree more. There is not much musicianship with what is mainstream today, ie. numetal, emo, pop punk stuff. I don't listen to that stuff either for many reasons but one is the music being too generic. I listen to more underground, weird and indie stuff. If you remember Faith no More from the early ninties, the singer Mike Patton has done some genius things musically. Take a listen to Mr. Bungle if you haven't already, those guys were beyond anything I have ever heard and just so different. I am getting more interested in the composition of songs these days rather than who's rocking hardest or ripping the best solos. Don't get me wrong I LOVE hearing someone kick **s and take names but I don't hear to many people being melodic or doing something different. I saw the G3 concert a few years back w/ Petrucci, Vai, and Satch and I didn't wasnt to hear another guitar solo for weeks! I agree there is some great guitar work in the 80's rock stuff though I just have trouble getting past some of the glamor stuff and I'm generally not into the music. But no, there is nothing interesting with guitar and pop music these days. Another reason I don't like pop music! Some of the underground, lesser known metal guys I hear on college stations are doing some amazing stuff on guitar though. Ok, end of rant ;D

Post the jams ! It's great to hear the bands out there, Listening to Dirrrrty Craig and the others here in the forums is great fun, I look for new sounds clips daily. Lots of great talent here!
Speaking of Musicianship and 80's Rockers, I agree, they are above todays mainline rockers for whats out there, (The B circuit is who I go see at the shows!) I fault the front line music industry for pushing " That sound sells ", All these bands play whats required, not like the yeaster-year where a band could get signed for playing their heart & style! and the band had their own sound. I am just glad a few private labels are large enough to push musically talented bands out there. just not enough of them. I miss the variety.
Most of my guitar students that are 14-17 yrs of age, all want to rock out on the old tunes, Cream, Zepplin, even to Dream Theater, they dont want anything to do with todays power chord tunes. I cant wait another 5 yrs, these kids will be rocking out the 80's stuff with a cool new Millennium twist...

I will definitely post some clips of the show at HOB with the Splawn if my friend ends up recording it. Otherwise you check out my bands website for some sound clips that I posted in the original message thread. I don't think those classic bands like Zep, Hendrix, and Cream, etc will ever go out of style. Those bands of that time will be considered the greats like Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin, etc. It was just a matter of the right timing of war, social unrest, drugs, and rebellion. Rock was still very new and the exploration was just there. IMO there will never be music like that again because there will never be the same circumstances. So much has been done already, esp w/ guitar. It's makes me feel good when I hear young kids still rocking the Doors, Zep, Floyd, AC/DC etc. Good music will prevail and this mainstream garbage will come to a head soon I believe!
