I don't even own a pair of headphones. I hate listening to myself in headphones.. I turn the cab against the wall, cover it with a thick blanket and mic it.. the I run my drums and the tracks through my monitors and make them just loud enough where I can here both my live volume and the track. I see the method to your madness...lol...

Guys, I just pmed Matt this........ This is the way I do it: You have a 12in speaker. If my math is correct the direct center would be 6in. LOL So I set my mic roughly 3in from the edge or speaker. To me that has always seemed like the optimum place to put it! You have to crank it a little. Thats how I got my clips to sound the way that they do. I used Scotts setting on the EQ.....everything straight up (on 5). For some reason it sounds perfect like that. I have a friend who jammed on my Splawn Marshall last summer and thats how he like the EQ too. Matt, could you do me a favor? Record a clip small with the EQ, including gain, at the 12 o'clock position. Something like this:

The biggest part of it is turning it up. I usually have the master set at 10 o'clock - 11 o'clock

i also enjoy a lot of low end. usually i have my bass around 2-3 o'clock with the treble/mids/prescence at 11:00. i also have a 15 band eq running through the loop to shape the sound a little more. it sounds HUGE.
