Guys, I really need help finding a high quality recording pre amp to use with my Yamaha AW16G. The internal preamp is crappy and the quality sucks. I can bypass the preamp that is in the unit by connecting a really good preamp into the Optical In/ Out! I am looking at spending under $500. I am just going to be recording my guitar over backing tracks, and eventually vocals. I want a strong clear signal. What do you guys recommend? I have been looking at these 2 units, of which both have Optical connections that would be suitable for the Yamaha AW16G: www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=434&product=10853www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FireWire410-main.html

I am thinking more along the lines of the M-Audio unit. If there is something of better quality, just let me know!

Digidesign has the new Mbox 2, but it doesn't have Optical connections. I be the Mbox 2 would be really good?
