New here and to Splawns, have owned a VHT Pitt Bull Classic and still do for 10 plus years (still a great amp) but a different beast then the Marshall Modded Splawn. I have found the Splawn not as forgiving and you really have to work it, I play reissue Pauls and the rewards are great. But its been a long time since I played threw a Marshall and this amp to me just seems brighter and lack of a better word harsher then the VHT. Its loaded with Mullard 34's and JJ pre amp tubes..the VHT has Sventlana 34's and Chineese 12ax7's. Is it just the amp or if I change tubes will it I guess darken it up. Any suggestions

Marshalls are brite amps . Splawns are also . I have a Q R not a Marshall but I would assume since it is modded by Scott it is all the same . Speakers are a big issue . If you are using celestion g12t-75s which are really common ,then that is most of you trouble right there. they are brite speakers . You can also try changing the pre amp tubes to GT 12ax7c these take some of the top end out . the main thing is don't give up on the splawn . I thought my Q R was to brite when i first got it and I had been playing Marshall's . I also didn't want to mess with new speakers changing tubes etc. but i did it anyway . Now I've got the best sounding amp I've ever had and I've had a bunch of high end amps . Hope this helps

Thanks for the input, yes I think they are the 75's cause is an 800 cab the 300 watter. No I won't give up, I do love the sound, it does have that Marshall tone I grew up with hearing.
