when i was first researching the splawn amps i figured i'd grab a marshall plexi reissue and have scott mod it for me...but then it just made more sense to get the quick rod because i didn't already have a marshall i could just send him.
did any of you guys just send him a marshall to mod?

I bought a new 1959SLPx from Scott and had him mod it before he sent it to me. It's a monster -- KT-88's, clean channel, and purple tolex. I ordered it right after the clean channel mod became available. I use it for pretty much everything in the rock and metal vein.
I may have bought one of Scott's original creations if they had been available at the time, but I've been extremely happy with the modded Marshall. Still may invest in a Quick Rod at some point, and a purple cab to go with the Marshall.

I actually don't aside from security ones (boring pics and close-ups of serial no., etc.). I have a gig Sat. night and will ask the g/f to take some pics of the amp in full roarin' glory so I can post them.

Hey
I had a reissue 1987 Marshall that I sent Scott a couple of months ago. I have since got it back and it roars. I was very hesitant at first to send an amp out of the country (Canada) to be modified. But I can honestly say it was well worth it. Scott did a great job and it sounds awesome. I had been making due with another amp in the meantime but I have used it for a couple of gigs now and it performs flawlessly, sounds great. Now, with the 1987 small head there was no room for a clean channel so I don't have that option. But I currently run 2 heads into 1 cab, the Marshall for dirty and a classic 50 for clean. I am able to do this with a product called the Headbone VT from Radial Engineering. It is a slick setup. I am still interested in the new QR with clean channel so I could run 1 amp and cab and utilize the f/x loop for delays etc. ;D

I sent scott 2 marshalls 1 100 watt plexi and 1 50 watt plexi the 100 watt came back and sounded thin and weak no low end no brownsound just bad tone it had new tubes check up etc.The 50 watt sounded good but it was very noisey very brown but the noise got the best of me so I traded in at guitar center for 1 of my 17 mesa amps. The 100 watt I sold on ebay.Scott is one of the best people I have dealt with very fair and honest. His amps were not my cup of tea.though the 50 watt was far superior to a torres modded marshall I had but the 100 watt was not.

The modded Marshalls are not as good as the Quick Rod and Pro Mod. Scott has his own stuff that he does to make his amps the best! When you mod a Marshall you use the exsisting parts that are in it. Its amazing how just little things change the tone of an amp.

I have a Quick Rod which I love and recently purchased a 1959SLPx with the Splawn mod w/KT-88's and I have to say it is equally as impressive.
Actually it has more gain and throatiness than my QR.Maybe just a bit.Could be the KT-88's.But I can get the same tone out of each I just have to tweak accordingly.
All in all I'd say you can't go wrong with any Splawn. ;D

Its amazing how just little things change the tone of an amp. I completely disagree. A properly Modded Marshall 2203x reissue is the perfect amp to mod. They advertise the 2203x reissue as "the Marshall" to modify on the website. I got to play on another 2203x that had the KT88 and Mercury Magnetic Transformer upgrades as well as the Clean Channel upgrade and Standard MOD which included the Brown Sound, High Gain sound and lead volume boost upgrade(s). All of the tones were extremely spongey, warm, had a ton of headroom, not fizzy or fuzzy or grainy or anything like that mentioned above about the 100 watt plexi amp. I had also played on a Quick Rod the same day as the Marshall 2203x and both amplifiers had the magic. I play a lotr of alternate tuning d and e flat, as well as speed picking, wide vibrato, gypsy and harmonic minor, odd meter time signatures, Tool meets Black Crowes and Pink Floydian type song structuring with Steve Vai and Steve Morse thrown in. AN eclectic and tall order to fill and the Marshall 2203x SPLAWN MOD rose to the occasion and handled everything thrown at it. I did not want to stop playing the amp ! Then I plugged in my T.C. Electronic I had brought with that day and had it all dialed in previous with the high and low filtering a little tweaked for some added analogish warmth injected into the fx. A little delay and amnbient and WOW! To be honest, I like the tone of my stock 2203x and with the Klon Centaur or the TS9808 ANalogman in the front of it but with the Splawn mods being done for me soon, I will be in the total drivers . I will post clips to silence the nay sayers !!!!!:>) While the Marshall 2203x is away and getting its MAKEOVER ill be using my 1981 Marshall JCM800 2203 and Bogner Ubercab with my KLON CENTAUR or BOSS OD1 Analogman . Also got a Ibanez TS9-808 SIlver mod im gonna be running with the 1981 ! Im gonna run the two Marshalls along side each other in a wet/dry config with the TC electronic Gforethru the SPLAWN MODDED reissue !WOW:>) WALL OF TONE~!!! __________________________ The amplifiers and guitars only 1981 JCM800 2203 w/ Daly caps and Drake Trannies 2005 JCM800 2203 reissue (Getting the SPLAWN MODS across the board!!) You guys have seen mine. A 1978 JMP 2203 converted into a Pro Mod! It started out as a John Suhr OD Modded Marshall. Just didn't sound good. Sent it to Scott and its the best amp I have ever touched.....................until I get a Quick Rod!!!!
