It seems since the new 2005 splawns are available the resale on the older ones has fallen. Someone on ebay just sold an older pro-mod in near mint shape for $750 on ebay. Of course the buyer stole the amp at that price. Too bad I missed out on that one. Probably could have made $400 bucks just relisting it...

That one on ebay you are talking about is the 50 watt version of the pro mod, still a good price. Scott Splawn himself steered me away from buying that version last year. I had an chance to get one for a good price but not that good, so I called to ask some questions about the 50 watter, his answer was buy the 100 version.

In reference to the above post...what was the main issue with the 50 vs the 100? headroom? etc.

I never knew he made a 50 watt version? I prefer lower wattage amps anyway. To me a 100 watt amp is overkill. I guess back in the days when you needed masive stage volume a hundred watt amp was a savior but most of the gigs people play these days a 50 watt tube head is more then enough.

Only wanting to point out a fact:
"All other things being equal, a 100-watt amp will be just perceptibly louder than a 50-watt amp. It takes about a ten-fold increase in power to double perceived volume. That's right, you'd need a 500-watt amp to be "twice as loud" as your buddy's 50-watt amp. Even more thought-provoking is the fact that a 50-watt amp will only be perceived as a little bit louder than a 15-watt amp driving the same cabinet! "

No immediate plans on relisting this one. I'm hoping its a keeper. I was looking to replace my current head, when I saw the BIN I had to do it. Wasn't even sure if it was the 50 or the 100 watt version. Kinda looked like the 50 but I didnt even ask, I just clicked. It just might turn out to be a preview of Bigger and Better things to come. ;D

I've thought of selling mine too. I told Scott I wanted a new one, which I'll get here eventually, but the more I think about it the more I want to keep it. I mean I have the only snakeskin QR in this version, its basically one of a kind made in late 2004. I think in the long term it may be wise to sit on these older Splawns, as they will go UP in value in years to come even if right now they are not due to the improvements on the new stuff.
Just as an example look at how much the old Soldanos are going for, the orginal SLO's made in Mikes old shop in CA are worth twice as much now as a new SLO's.

Craig,
I think if scott ever stops production the splawns will certainly be collectable. The old ones as well as the new ones! I recently picked up an original Naylor Duel 60 amp and I hear they are pretty sought after. It really is a monster of an amp! Closer to the early VH sound then the splawn (not as high gain though) IMO and a beautiful clean sound as well. I think I will stick with this one for a long time.

Exacty ! I'm by no means a collector of any kind, but I was thinking earlier today how cool it will be to have an early Pro Mod if/when these things take of.
