hey hollywood! the band name is Spence - and we are playing quite a bit of shows in california. Im sure we'll hit up knitting factory soon (and if youre not busy maybe you can check us out)
we've got some clips on our site right now, but those clips are rough tracks with no splawn on them. There is a ridicoulous amount of Splawn on the final mixes and it sounds clear/huge and no mudiness. I'll be posting something on Wednesday cause tuesday we're getting those almost finished mixes.
Donald - I started with the PM and inititally liked it better. I think these days i slightly lean towards the QR. I run them together at shows and they sound awesome! (if the venue isnt super tiny)
Right now i've got my QR set on Gear 2, and the PM on Gear 1 (bass dimed for a really earth shaking sound). I have 6550 tubes in the PM.
I noticed that If i get too much bass with the QR it gets muddy/farty. But with the Pro Mod I can dime the bass without getting any muddiness on all 3 gears (Just sounds a tad darker)
Sorry for the useless ramble, just some tones i was experimenting with on Gear 1 with the PM hehe.

A PM and QR at the same time! Nice. If your band ever comes around the tri-state area I will come to see that! It seems like alot of people end up digging the QR more. I don't know, I am happy with my PM and I only played shreder's QR for a little bit so its hard to tell which I liked better. I'll stick with my PM for now though. Oh, and I agree about the bass on the PM. You can run it really high and it never farts out.

I think its cause the QR has a certain bite to it... don't know how to explain it really.
The only thing with the PM is that if you play in a 2 guitar band (or probably even a 1 guitar band) make sure you adjust if you play in the 2nd or 3rd gear.
I've experienced that if you don't dial in enough treble/mids/presence in the 2nd and 3rd gear you'll have a really dark/non cutting tone that doesn't get in your face.
you could always take your PM to a tech and have him put el34's inside. It would be the same exact thing as getting a QR. If you prefer the PM tone you can just change it back after a while!

Yes it can kinda dark if you don't keep the treble and presence up a bit but then again I use V30's so its not really an issue. EL34's definitely have a bite unlike any other tube. The KT88's are little subdued there. If I wanted to change it to EL34's one of the resistors would have to be changed as well. Too much work and money so I'd rather just get a QR at some point to have both as well!

Is this true? I thought there were circuitry differences between the Promod and Quickrod, not just tube differences.

no differences philm - i've asked scott before when i used to own just a Promod (and i was curious about the QR)
they are exactly the same and the only difference is the tubes. Atleast thats what i heard for my 2nd generation splawns.
