Ok for those who are technical out there, I am thinking of getting a 16ohm stereo 2X12 so I can easily make it 8ohm mono in the future when I get another 2X12 to run together. Thus both being 8ohms at that time. However in the short term is there any disadvanatge tone wise in a 16ohm stereo cab over an 8ohm stereo cab?

Hi ttosh,
nah.. not really.. there are some that like to use the complete winding on the OT for get the most out of the transformer.. (16ohm for example) but its a very very minimal change.
Go for it!

Go for it! The reason why is the guys at Avatar told me if it was my only cabinet but I was going to add one later it would be easier to modify 16ohms stereo to 8ohms mono. I took their word on this, but wanted other input. Hey by the way I still want to stop out in the near future. I am still wanting to hear the Splawn. I decided based on your input to keep my Engl and save up for the Splawn instead of getting rid of the Blackmore. I purchased a sonic maximizer this weekend and it really added to the overall fullness of my sound. I jammed with another guitarist that was using an ADA preamp with a Mesa Boogie 295 power amp and I really started liking my tone through the night. He had a good sound going as well. Mixed together I thought they sounded really good and complimented each other. So I am hoping to grab a Splawn in the near future and run it in a mix with the Engl. Does that sound like a normal thing? LOL I figure I can use both for the dirty sounds, and figure out which one cleans up the best for cleans. I have no idea what I am doing, but it sure is fun!!!!!!

Heck ya come on out!! when ever you get time.. just let me know! :-) the lower volumes of the engl is nicer to control. but the Splawns are more detailed. you really need to come hear them. Sounds like you have things under control ;-) one thing is for sure.. if I was going cut some heads, it would be the splawn doing it. hey, and Idea, let me know when your going to jam next time I will bring ya one ofthe splawns

See now that would be a problem. It is going to take me about 2 months to save up the cash. If I had it and used it to Jam with and loved it that would be bad. I have a patience problem already, and I am afraid that would add to it, LOL.
