What speakers will give me Greenback tone that I can use 2 of in a 2x12 cab that will take Pro Mod wattage? I have an old Laney cab that I've replaced the speaker with Greenbacks and this amp really sounds great with these speakers. I know this is pushing it to have 4 25watt speakers for a 120watt/KT88, firebreathing MONSTER so what Eminence or speaker can handle 75watts a piece and give me this sound in a 2x12? I have Vintage 30s in the cab now and it is just a little too bright sounding and no where near as smooth. thanks, Steve

If you already have v-30's in a 2-12 cab then buy 1 g12/30 anniversary celestion and put it in with 1 of the v-30's. The cost of this speaker is around 100.00 to 125.00 , so you keep total cost down and have a new comb. of speakers to tone down the all v-30 cab. I actually like the comb. like this in a 2-12 cab. ;D

Hollywood, The problem is that the H30 is a 30watter. My understanding of this is that a 120w amp needs atleast 2 60watters or better.

Hey 'wood. Do your ears hear a distinctive crunchiness (I mean in a good way) of the H30 over a V30? Seems like I hear that as well as the additional bottom end.

I understand. But do you have the need to crank your amp that hard? I always ran mic set-ups and wound up my amps to a decent sweet spot in most venue situations. Control of the out of control, so to speak. Now there are large very large venue opportunities that came along where, yes at very high volume levels a different approach is best. Maybe if pushing that hard, a Zack wylde speaker as a choice in your cabs. They handle insane wattage. I would rather fry PA any day than my beloved guitar gear. LOL. Good point, thanks. I actually have an older EVM 12L that I should try with my Pro Mod. I believe that's what ZW is using in his 4x12s except it's the Re-issue called the Black Label Society EVM. I was originally curious about the Eminence equiv of a Greenback but maybe the Eminence equiv of the H30 might be a better fit and I could try just one to see where that got me. The cab I'd like to end up with is a Splawn OS 2x12. What I'm thinking of experimenting on is a Mesa Recto 2x12. It currently has 2 16ohm Vintage 30s wired to an 8ohm load. It sound good, just not as good as the Greenies. And it is rated above the 100watt Greenie limit. As you say, ridiculously loud should be bringing another cab into the mix but sometimes I get there without really thinking about it, while jamming in the basement.

The Eminence equiv of a Greebback are either the Legend GB128 or the Private Jack. The equiv of the H30 is the Wizard and I hear a lot of great things about these so I suggest you go with them.

That's exactly what I want to try - two Wizards combined with two Man-O-War's. They sell the Wizards for $89.99 on musiciansfriend BTW.

There's a guy who swears by "Scumback" speakers...these are supposed to be the BEST greenie-clone out there, however they are a little pricey. Iv'e never tried them before but you might consider them.

Allen Amps lists the Eminence Wizards for sale at $80 a piece and the description that they give is between the Private Jack and the Governor which are the Greenback and Vintage 30 cloned sounds. They are also rated a 75watts each with a sensitivity of 103db. This could be a great option for my Pro Mod. I was going to consider possibly putting the BeamBlockers in but these are rated higher with a less harsh sound, (*reportedly), than the Vintage 30s which everyone seems to be in agreement that these are not the best 'Splawn applicable speaker'. This price is about $10 cheaper each than MusiciansFriend but doesn't reference shipping costs so it might be apples to oranges for a comparison. I'm going to give them a call later today to see what the deal is.
Does anyone know if Scott will sell raw speakers? I don't see that listed or what the prices would be. I can give him a call if no one knows.
Thanks, Steve
