I deserve the credit here! I told Mot/hack about the scums way back. I had a weber g12h clone in a 1x12 cab I have which is now replaced with the scum. Though weber makes the scums for Jim I didn't like the weber near as much.

You guys are giving me G.A.S. I am seriously thinking of getting scumbacks. But waiting 'til I hear my QR with the V30's first. I have a VHT 2x12 cab right now with the V30's. Can you run the 30 watt scummies in a 2x12 with a QR? Or am I asking for blown speakers? I'm willing to use the half power switch if the tone difference isn't huge. Or should I get the 65 watt ones and run full power?

If you're going to use a 2x12 I'd go for the 65 watters. Still try and be careful, I'm sure a 100w Splawn actually puts out more than a 100w when cranked.
What I like about having a 4x12 with 30w speakers is that I can get better tone at lower volumes since they're less efficient. Also keep in mind that the Scumbacks are good for that classic Celestion sound. They're more 'vintage' sounding.

I might get those or this new EVH Celestion cab. I played on it the yesterday and it was killer. Smooth on the top end and the bass sound great!

Cool, thanks darkburst. I'm not going to dime the QR, but it will be loud at practice and gigs. Sounds like I need to go with the 65 watters. Man, I sold my last 4x12 years ago, I'd rather go with the 2x12 than go back to 4x12. My back can't hack it anymore. but it's tempting...the "vintage" sound is more what I'm going for anyway now...thanks for the info. Motrock - you are a rockstar. 2 4x12's? got a roadie I hope... And the pizza bomber was in on it!! Blew himself up. loser!

I use the 30watt Scumbacks more, because I don't have to crank too much....and no one gets mad here at the house! LOL

Hahaha - the 4x12 is almost not an option at this point in my life. By the way, that was me on the Jim "scumback speaker guy" email that you were copied on. He thinks the Splawns are way over 100 watts from what he has heard. Ever blow a speaker? Thanks to everyone on this thread, I only mentioned Darkburst earlier for some reason...probably has to do with beer. or beer.

Of course I did get a lower rated tube and I biased the amp lower. So that helped when I crank!

I'm sure any 100w Splawn will put out more than that when cranked. There are some Quickrod users here who have 25w Greenbacks in their 4x12's without any problems. Just be careful and don't crank it too hard!
