The Splawns are much better built and look better...soundwise, the Splawn sounds alot like the late 60s vintage Marshall cabs with metal handles...better/tighter bass response than those cabs though...I haven't heard the 'slant' Splawn but I expect it to perform better than any Marshall from any era.

I own a JCM 800 cab with Celestions from the mid-80's and Splawn cabs. the Splawn cabs with the Eminence sound way better and warmer to my ear. they also filter out all that annoying high-frequency stuff that makes those girls on the dance floor cringe. I'm selling the Marshall and just ordered my 3rd Splawn cab... slant.

I have 2 of the new slants coming and I also have a marshall jcm 800 era 1960AC loaded with Greenbacks that I'll side by side them and see but..It's already a no-brainer as straight cabs do sound better and the splawn slant is essentially a straight cab with better aesthetics with a head sitting on it....

the high frequencies could quite possibly be that quad of gt-75's that come stock in marshall cabs, personally i only like thos speakers when mixed with something like a governer or vintage 30 to thicken up the sound and take out some of the scratchiness
the corners they cut construction-wise aren't helping with the marshall's sound either tho

Sorry to hijack the thread but.....What specific Eminence speakers do you guys love and why ? Thanks. Before I even met Scott I was into the Eminence Governor speaker...I had one next to a Celestion V30 in a Earcandy BuzzBomb cab...it (Gov) was much smoother and punchier than the Celestion V30...when I ordered the Splawn cab Scott suggested the X patterned with Man o war's too...sounds excellent...the new Eminence blow away the Chinese (and English) Celestions...IMHO. But to each his own...

Sorry to hijack the thread but.....What specific Eminence speakers do you guys love and why ? Thanks. i've got the governer/manowar x pattern...in short, i tried a bunch of speakers and cabs when i got my cobra; two choices i found sounded best to me...a bogner uberkab, and the eminence loaded splawn; the splawn was $300 less, sounded just as good, custom options, and they were local with a killer customer service reputation...can't say i regret my decision a bit, best people i've ever dealt with, period...and i'll have that cab untill i'm too old to move it around
