Hey guys. I just got through doing a comparison of two different cabs, with different speakers, with my pro stock. I tried my marshall 4-12 slant cab with the v-30's, and then, tried my marshall slant cab with the greenback re-issues, 25 watts. I think I agree with Josh sage, at rebel amps, in that the greenback re-issues sound really good. I think they don't have the overall projection, and or volume, like the 70 watt v-30's have though. Right now I only have marshall 4-12 cabs. Can you guys tell me what your thoughts are on the splawn cab difference, versus the marshall??? Also, what you think about speakers, I currently only own celestions, in every cab I own. I wonder how good a 4-12 with G12h-30's in it would sound, the one's Scott uses, the anniversary celestions? : Thanks for any help, on this matter. I like craig's playing and tone, what speakers does he use in his top and bottom cabs???

I have almost all marshall cabs too. v30 cab, emimence loaded cab, v30/g12h30 OS 2x12, older 1960g12t-75 cab.. after trying the OS splawn 2x12 with the v30/h30, I called scott at splawn and asked how this compared to the splawn cab. Scott said he thinkgs it has the same vibe. which I think is a little deeper, a 3d-ish sound. I havent tried the greenbacks yet.. but was thinking about it sometime in the future. a few things are happening at the moment that I cant proceed musically. :-( but it will be back!
I really like the projected punch you in the 8ss thing.. will the greenies do anywhere close to the v30 punch?

i currently own a splawn cab with 75 watt celestions, a marshall cab with greenbacks, 2 marshall cabs with 75 watt celestions, and an orange with vintage 30s....
as for splawn vs. marshall, i think the splawn projects quite a bit more and i seem to hear a more total range of sound - a bit more mids/highs while stil having substantial low end. i assume that is because of the more solid construction of the splawn cabs....
my marshall cab with greenbacks has a distinctive upper mid sound that compliments the 75 watters very well.... if i were running a 2 cab set up i would definitely recommend this combination.... obviously the speaker breakup begins alot earlier as well - i can get some seriously meaty tones at lower volumes with the greenbacks....
personally, i don't care for the v30s so much.... there is always a certain upper mid frequency that i can't stand, and can never seem to dial out - especially with my pro stock.....
all that being said, the splawn cabs are definitely a great sounding cab and also a tremendous value. plus the ability to customize speakers is awesome... as for the g12h celestions, i am hoping they sound great as well - i currently have a splawn cab on order with 75 watt celestions/g12 heritage speakers in the x pattern. it should ship on monday and i can't wait....

Hacksaw, I think the v-30's, have a sweetness in the volume they produce, a warmth through thickness, I think the greenies have a business like directness to the tone, they put out. It's kinda like they say, tone with out extra volume. Plus early break up for great sound at lower decibals. Alot of newer marshalls need the extra help the v-30's offer in tone assistance. That's why the v-cabs sound soooo good, when your running marshalls. Also hang in there on your gear delay. Nothing last forever, that's why the word sustain was created. ;D

Natemeanie, I wonder how a cab with all g12h-30's would sound? I notice I seem to favor the earlier breakup of the greanies, yet miss the volume the v-30's give, but I never have liked the cabs with all 75 watt celestions, to me they just have a edge I don't like. To every day sounding on their own. Also, are you running slant cabs or straight cabs? I have been running slant cabs. except for my marshall 2-12, 1936 cabs.

Hollywood, i was initially going to order a cab with just the g12h speakers, but Josh at Splawn thought it might sound a little too mushy - we felt the combination would be the best of both worlds... All of my cabs but 1 are straight cabs - i prefer the thicker and more focused sound they have.... Finally, if you are near a guitar center, the marshall handwired cabs have the g12h speakers.... so you could take your amp there and try one out.....

Thanks for the compliment hollywood.. I have the Eminence Man'OWars and Governors in all my Splawn cabs. I think they sound better than any Celestions I've heard, which is much in disagreement with the general population here. My drummer says it best,, even when I'm loud as f'ck which is all the time,, it doesn't hurt your ears.

I like craig's playing and tone, what speakers does he use in his top and bottom cabs??? To my ears....the G12H30s sound great. But my Scumbacks sound waaayyyyy better! ;D The G12H30 Reissues killed my ears on the highs! I had the Emi x pattern in my Splawn cab. It just sounded to muffled for my taste. Plus I wasn't too much in to the lowend. I like lowend, but not to much. Thats what a bass player is for! It has to be a punchy lowend. Frank Hannon calls it the SAC FACTOR! For me, 30watters sound the best in the lowend department because they are punchy and they cuts better. My 65watters sound great for metal. Not so much for rock. More of a shred/ metal tone....kinda like Zakk Wylde meets Paul Gilbert. Plus the 65watters can acctually handle 2nd and 3rd gear....which have a lot of lowend....and will kill lower wattage speakers cranked up. I use 1st gear all the time anyway. I have used 2nd and 3rd gear probably 3 times in the last year! All in all 25watters and 30watters are more musical sounding....to my ears. By the way, check out the new Stuck Mojo. Rich Ward I believe used the Greenback Reissue's and they sound awesome with his Pro Mod!!!!
