I've had some time to really fool around with this amp and dial in some settings and I have to say that this amp is very versitile and truly amazing. I am after thrash metal type tones and initially I was running Gear 3/Overdrive 2 but have recently found a better sound IMO in Gear 2/Overdrive 2 running a 808 Screamer Clone upfront with the gain backed off on the amp a bit. I swapped my V1 tube out for a Tung Sol 12AX7 and put a Shuguang C9 in V2. Power tubes are a quad of Sovtek KT88's. The only other thing that is making a difference is a 362 Sonic Maximizer in the loop on the -10db setting. I have a wah and whammy pedal also but that's it for effects. My settings are as follows: Presence 10:00-11:00, Bass 3:00, Mids 11-12:00, Treble 1:00, & Gain 1-2:00. Amp sounds real good with the Master volume around 10:00. Both my knobs on the BBE are at 12:00. With this setup I am getting a very thick, aggressive distortion with tons of bottom end that is nice and tight. Good for the ole' galloping E riffs and palm mutes. The boost from the 808 provides alot of sustain with great harmonics. With the BBE engaged it makes the tone sound less muffled which you would never notice unless you used one of these units. It also helps out tons in the gain department and really adds thickness and low end that I was not getting with the amp by itself. Since my amp techically only has one channel it pretty much resembles a JCM800. I can get very good clean tones though by rolling back on my guitar volume and switching to Overdrive 1 on the head while in Gear 2. This provides a clean tone with a little dirt but if you need it cleaner you can switch over to Gear 1/Overdrive 1 and it cleans up even better. I have to say that I am really happy with this head and look forward to finding more tones out of it. Rock on!!
