I actually have my ProMod running at half power with the two outer tubes removed (based on scott's suggestion). I thought about just cranking the gain and then getting the level right late3r with the master volume. thats what i'll try next practice. The dual rec. is the older 2 channel model and I think it's awesome. Besides the splawn at full master and my old silvertone, its one of the better sounding amps i've heard. It does tend to get lost in a bunch of bottom end though, the splawn has no trouble cutting at all. Yeah, wherever you set your gain is your preference no matter where the master volume is at. Like I said before, when some amps get muddy at louder volume then its a good idea to back off the gain but that should never be a problem with a Pro Mod because they always stay articulate no matter where the gain is. I have heard good things about the 2 channel Dual Recs but mine was the newer 3 channel and that thing sucked IMO. Too muddy and didn't cut through. I would like to hear one of the older ones in person someday but I have come to find I am a Marshall type man after avoiding that style for so long!

I'm a Marshall man myself. I left my JCM 900 for the ProMod, but I still love the 900 no matter what. I'll never part with that thing.

I also played a Dual Reverb once and it sucked ass... I hear the single channels are better.

I have a 50-watt 900. It is the dual reverb model with el-34 tubes. I'm not aware of the single channel dual rectifiers so i cant judge

We were talking about them because his guitarst has one. Someone mentioned that the 2 channel and 1 channel Recs were better

Well I have an older Pro mod with no Gears or Updated Clean channel but it does have the seperate eq for the clean.
My settings vary a bit from guitar to guitar but I am digging the low input for almost everything.
Od 2
prescence around 1 o'clock. Bass around 11 o'clock. mids at 9 o'clock. Treble at 4 o'clock Volume at 10 o'clock. Gain at 12 oclock
It varies from whatever guitar I am playing but not by much.
if i go to the high input umy gain will be a bit lower.
The advantage of the low input is that my clean channel sounds better and becomes just a tad more usable but if i need a little grit in the clean then I will go to the high input and there ya go.
OD 1 and 2 are used with pretty much the same settings too.

I have a 2-Channel Dual Rectifier, one of the older ones and they do sound better than the newer versions. I had a 2002 single rectifier w/the solo boost as my main amp when I bought the dual recto as a backup.. I a/b them and the DR blew the SR away. Its a great amp, but a totally different animal. But what do i know, its on ebay right now!!

I used to do this with the SLO (Pull two outer tubes) and decided to try it last night and I was able to get some nice tones with much less volume. I still could be heard over drums and bass no problem so I think I might run it like this in the future. Thanks! And to add to the Dual Rec portion of this thread, I have had many of the older ones and a few of the newer and 90% of the time the older ones just have more bottom to them. The Rack head I had was the best of the bunch though.

Well as one of the few survivors of the Nitro Holocaust I will share my PM settings with you. They are really nothing special though they work for me. the only time I change anything is when switching from my LP to Strat I will back off the presence a bit. Gear: 2 Gain: 1:00 - 4:00 Volume : 8:00 - 9:30 (depending on the gig.) Bass: 10:00 - 11:30 (more for the Strat) Mids: 12:00 - 1:30 Treble: 12:30 - 2:00 (depending on the room) Presence: 11:00 - 1:00 (depending on the room) Full Power 16 Ohm setting into Bogner 4x12 My settings are pretty close to noon on everything except the bass needs to be dialed back. A few times I have played on 3rd gear and then I roll the gain back to about 11:00. Probably not much help but what the hell. Ok! So! I tried these settings and yeah! Sounds good. I am running this through an older boogie rectifier cab with Naylor Special Design speakers and it sounds really tight and bright. Not overall bright but if I add a touch less treble it makes a big difference. Cool! I like these settings alot! I am going to swap out the speakers in my cab this week with the GOV/Manowar X pattern setup. I will let you know all about it.
