Hi folks I´m new to the forum and really interested in these amps from reading on the net and checking out samples. I live in Bergen Norway, so I can´t test these beast unfortunately.. I´m trying to figure out which amp´s for me; I play aggressive, speedy stuff so I´m looking for an amp that has got lots of definition and low end tightness. I hate muddy Mesa type sounds with lots of distortion. I currently play on a Framus Cobra stack (endorsed) which is absolutely killer but would like a more Marshall flavoured sound. But I don´t wanna loose the punch and low end tightness the Framus delivers, especially when tuned low. Have anybody compared the Framus to the Splawn amps ? Is the Pro Mod the way to go or maybe the Quick Rod is just as ballsy? I like the typical Marshall sound with lots of high mids.. but like I said, need an amp that stays tight and focused when tuning low. Do they ship overseas to Norway ? Please check out my band to get an idea of my sound: www.myspace.com/grimfist666I tried emailing Scott but haven´t heard from him yet. Thanks in advance guys looking forward to hear from you Cheers & all the best !!

Hey man, from what you're describing you're looking for the splawn will be perfect for you, it's tight, articulate, aggressive and has a big bottom end. I've never played a framus cobra but i've heared clips and wasn't impressed... If you want to hear the difference between a quick rod and pro mod listen to these two sound clips: www.splawnguitars.com/ssplawnbrown.mp3www.splawnguitars.com/splawn_quickrod.mp3

Scott Splawn recorded these, both are played through a Splawn 4-12 with G12H30's and G12T75's in an X pattern, with a mahogany guitar loaded with rio grande humbuckers. I hear a big difference between the two, the pro mod is tighter with bigger bottom and the quick rod is saggier and juicier.

Ok thanks. The pro mod is probably the one for me. Is there any other difference between the two apart from the kt88´s in the pro mod ?

I love hearing those clips. It makes me sure that I bought the right Splawn for me. Those clips are a good comparison because you can hear the difference between the two wit the same recording setup. You can hear the PM has more low mids and more low end thump and the QR has more high mids and sag. You need to keep these things in mind. Other than that they are very similar sounding amps with slight differences due to the power tubes. The circuit is the same otherwise.
I think the Pro Mod would be more your style if you want tight bottom end thump but I'm biased. Both amps are tight and articulate, never muddy (hallelujah!). The Pro Mod is plenty aggressive but will feel a little stiffer than the QR.

Thanks for replying. Are there any clips of heavy riffing and low tuning ? Really appreciate people chiming in, both PM and QR users

Kilman, I have no comment on the PM since I haven't played one, but only to address one of your comments about sending email to Splawn. Good as they are at customer service, for some reason emails seem to not get through so well over there. Try sending another email.

I know it would probably cost a lot for you but calling him is the only good way to get in touch with him. He doesn't always answer emails.
