Hey, I may have a chance to buy a pro mod from a buddy.
It is the old style with 2 inputs.it looks like the one on the site labeled "tony rombola".
What are the major differences? It only has gear 1 and 2? I dont think I'll need 3. Clean channel? not as good?
Also how radically different is the sound of the quick rod? I've always been an el34 fan casue of the warm top but I'm also a low end freak so the kt88s might just be a good compromise. It's long as it sounds more like a marshall and not like a dual rec I'll be happy! I'm running two 4x12s with greenbacks.
Man I sure like the eruption guys tones on here! Can you get something very similar to that with gear 1 of the pro mod?
Thanks in advance guys! Jeremy

Jeremy,
I have the older Promod also. You'll love it. The clean channel is fine. There's nothing wrong with it. It sounds nothing like a dual crap, I mean rec. From what you described your liking as above I think you'll really dig the Promod.

Thanks guys!
I think I will be happy with the amp. Someone plese tell me though....Is 1350 too much for the amp? I see that the older splawns dont go for as much as the newer ones.

Also, forgot to add...this is one with the 11 knobs intead of 12? Did they go through a transitional period? What does the 12th knob do and does this amp have a shared tube for clean? This amp looks identical to the bottom one in Brad from Disciple's rig.

edgebsl,
The 12th knob you refer to is most likely the gear knob since the one you are looking at has 2 inputs. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Also, the PM is definitely not like the Dual Rec! I had one and hated it it. The PM is the Marshall JCM sound with more ballz. It just has more low end and slightly smoother mids than the QR. If you like Marshalls this amp wil more than please you.

Oh yeah!!! Got it today! Definitely a marshall tone!! A very good one. Has many qualities of the marshalls I've owned(2205 and 2203) but much more well rounded. Its got the jj's and I dont know if I would say its lacking mids? Of course I'm running it through 8 greenbacks so they pump out lots of mids anyway. I think its a great combination but of course today:I discovered one of my speakers is loose and rattling,so I have to strip the cab apart tomorrow and tighten things up! Damn those massive lows!
