I finally got to gig with the Pro Mod on Saturday at a small club here in Jersey. It was nice to crank it a bit and give the tone some cajones!
I did have major problems being heard though and I can only attribute it to the clubs mix. One problem was that the last band had a TON of equipment taking up all the room in the backline so I was practically sitting on top of my amp. I moved to the side and away from the amp during a few songs and I realized that I was certainly loud enough! Everyone said the amp sounded good and I wasn't too loud or too soft.
I was slighty disspointed in the sound since I felt I could not hear anything and therefore played pretty bad. that was until I headr the next band...
They had bass, drums, guitar, 2 saxes and a trumpet. The guitarist brought up an old Marshall (Plexi or Superlead??) and a cab with greenbacks with a Gibson Firebird (real sweet looking) so I thought he would have a pretty nice classic sound. Well....it sounded like razorblades cutting through mud! Horrible sound!!
I can't undertand how someone could make such timeless equipment sound so bad
. I believe he was using some junky distortion pedal and just murdering the tone. Not to mention his playing was quite poor as well and the dude had to be in his late 30's
After hearing that I was very happy knowing my Splawn pissed all over his Marshall.
Maybe that's why he seemed like a pr1ck to me when we were unloading and he was loading up.
