I know this question has been asked several times but nobody has ever answered it...Is it just a matter of adjusting the Bias to install EL34's or is it more involved than that??..I'd really like to know and would appreciate somebody giving a heads up on this....Thanks!!

I did this to my PM and all you need to do is swap R30 to a (1/2 watt minimum) 22k resistor. Then you rebias and you're set.I put in the Mullards and it sounds great.

I would try that but everything I tried to modify I have killed! (DS-1 and Dunlop wah GCB-95). My other gripe with doing that is that the transformer is optomized for KT88's so it may not sound as good. Scott said it will not sound like a Quick Rod no matter what modification you do. I would say if you go that far you may as well just sell it and order a QR!

Well if that is the case that whatever mod you do will not make it sound like the Quick Rod,then several people including Scott, have lied to me in saying that the 2 amps' circuits are identical except for the tubes and transformers.

yea they lied to me too, all i keep hearing is that the pro mod and the quick rod are the same circuits the same transformer only the tubes are different...now what the hell? did scott lie to us? i hope not i was really liking him!!

Well regardless,my amp sounds great with the EL34's and was told more than once on Saturday night that my tone was the best they ever heard. There's no way the KT88's sound better in mine. The response is so much better now IMHO.

Well if that is the case that whatever mod you do will not make it sound like the Quick Rod,then several people including Scott, have lied to me in saying that the 2 amps' circuits are identical except for the tubes and transformers. Nobody lied to you, the circuits are identical but the differnces in the transformers is what distinguished the two. There's nobody to blame for this misunderstanding. I think people get information and interpret it into the limits of what they understand. I am sure the mods will get you close to the Quick Rod sound because they are the same circuits but unless you change the transformers (which would not be worth the cost) it will not sound the same as if you had a Quick Rod. The mids will always be a bit more smoother on the Pro Mod if I am correct. And the Pro Stock & QR are exactly the same with the exception of a clean channel on the QR. Hope that clarifies this issue.
