Hi there.
I'ma be buyin a new amp soon and I have a few questions. I dont know much about Splawn amps but I like what I hear so far. Alot of people claim Splawns are basically hot rodded Marshalls and from most clips I could agree. But I play a bit heavier music than in most of the clips. I'm not looking for a Van Halen sound. I'm looking for a sound much like Iced Earth. From around Something Wicked This Way Comes. Think a Pro Mod could get me there?
I admit I dont know much of anything about tubes. What exactly is the KT-88 upgrade?
And does the Pro Mod has a pretty saturated sound, or is it a drier sound? As mentioned above I'm lookin for that nice Iced Earth tone. Or something even comparable to say, Testament, Deliverance, etc..
And is the Pro Mod the "highest gain" amp of the series?
Hope ya can help a Splawn n00b
Jim

Cheack out some of the newer clips! There awesome. One thing about this forum is that somebody know's something. You just got to look. As far as the Testament tone? I personally know them, and the gear they use. Eric uses Triple Recto's that are slightly modded. Also he uses a couple stomp boxes.(for boost only) The thing about those Recto's is that there very, very picky about how they like to be ran. I HAD 2 of them. My C+ heads's sounded way better. The older Testament records, they used a combination of modded Marshall's, and older Boogies,MKIII,MKIV)and ADA's Check out Rocksolidamps.com. there is a pleathera of sound clips you can check out. I'd say if your into the heavier s**t, check out the Pro Mod.
Good luck!!

Yeah I know what Eric uses. I dont like Mesa's but its the combination of the tones. Of their tones I like First Strike Still Deadly the most. Powerful and Brutal. I've spoken with Alex Piralas alot about Alex's gear and what not as well.
