I'm still pretty new at this forum, but there is a wealth of info on the what to get and the what nots'. Anyway, I'm in a position to pickup a "old school" PM. I can see the physical difference, but what about the tonal difference? Should I hold off and get a newer one, or check this one out? Are there any users out there that are happy with there older PM's? ;D

I haven't tried the new ones but as far as I know they added an eq for the clean channel and the circuits are the same. I have had the original version and now the Quick Rod again older version and these amps sound just as good and better than most everthing going these days, you won't be disappointed!!! Make sure if you get one that it is the 100watt version because Scott Splawn himself told me not to buy the 50 watter.

Thanks Shred! I forgot about that little detail, thats what happens as we get older I call it sometimers LOL! The Mercury Magnetic's have a clearer more articulation. The Heybour's sound more like a vintage plexi vibe.

Thanks guys for the heads up. Will see what happens next. I went and bought it. So, I'll be letting you guys know what's up. What's the difference between the Merc's and the Hayboers?

That's what I have and it flat out rocks.

I was surprised at how much different transformers make on the sound of any amp...
Hey, tj, I don't know about the PMs because I have a QR...if you like your 50 watt PM, then Rock on! Same things can be said about 50 and 100 watt Marshalls....its all personal (subjective) preference.

I haven't really played it much since I bought the Splawn PM. I always had to use the half power switch when playing out. Too hard to crank a 100 up where it needs to be and not rip everyone's face off in the clubs that I play in.

I have the newer PM and I was thinking of getting a jubilee before I got this. Is it basically the same sound?

They're similar but the splawn blows it away. Don't get me wrong. The Marshall sounds great but when put up against the PM there's really no comparison. IMO.

Is there a noticable difference between the QR and PM? Is it that glaring? Also how is PM w/KT-88 as far as leads/solo tone?
