Hi gang, I've been to Splawn's site, HC, and done some research here and I guess I would like some additional info. I tried emailing Scott Splawn, but it's been about a week and no response. Anyway, real quick history: Playing 10 years, owned Boogies Mark IIC+ & Mark IV (I hate Metallica tone though), Marshall JCM 800s, a 5150 (YUCK) and currently a Boogie Triaxis. I played through a Soldano SLO 100 recently and was blown away by the gain channel. How do the QR and Pro Mod compare to the SLO? It's hard to tell when you can't play it! What are the major differences between the sound in a Pro Mod vs. a Quick Rod? Thanks for any and all help.

you wouldn't happen to be tracy jenkins from charvel central/JCF would you? Never heard of him/her. I got my name from an "In Living Color" bit called "The Dirty Dozens." Jamie Foxx played this dude who basically insulted everyone w/ "Yo' Mama" jokes. So, you got any info for me? Or do I need to tell you a "yo' mama" joke first?

can't really compare it to an SLO...never played through one....
the quick rod is for people that like that modded marshall sound...think Van Halen...if you 're looking for that type of crunch the quick rod is for you...it'll do other marshall tones also obviously...
the pro mod is a bit more modern sounding

Splawnfan, Thanks for the quick replies, man. I am a huge VH freak too, but I don't necessarily want to cop his tone--I just like that type of overdrive. I hate the 5150, but the Soldano is what it was modeled after and it was the nicest gain I have ever heard in an amp. Much more harmonics; sweeter and smoother gain; etc. The 5150 sounds like a solid state amp next to it. However, these things also sound great on the clips! Very intriguing. There's just so little info on the Splawn site about them.

Well, I think I got my "paper" questions answered. Just got off the phone w/ Mr. Splawn. He helped me understand the differences between the two. I found out that both amps share the same circuit, just have different transformers & tubes.
Thanks again for all the help! I'm interested...

I would stay clear away from the SLO-100. I know everyones taste is sound is different but I played one at the music store I used to work at and thought it sounded like garbage. I seemed muddy no matter how I set it. Yes they have a lot of gain but you want clarity which it did not have. Probably one of the worst high end amps I ever played through. You would be much better off with any splawn or even a bogner.

Hmm. I have only played on one SLO for about 10 minutes, and I didn't find it muddy. Could've been the Depth knob or speaker config, or the pickups. Oh well...
I have received my Pro Mod and it is really starting to grow on me. At first I wasn't sure how I liked it because it is SO much brighter than my Mesa gear and the distortion is intense. But I jammed w/ my drummer and I futzed around with it and I am really digging it! It cuts through with ease, and it is FREAKING LOUD! (Mine's got the 6550's).
I have found some of my favorite sounds are with the gain on about 1-1.5 and the master cranked up on both OD channels.
It's a different beast, but it's got a great tone to it. Very unique. It does the Van Hagar tone EXACT if you want it to (but that's not all it does).

T-dog curious why did you go with the 6550 rather then the KT-88 that Scott usually does? Did Scott say there would be a a major difference. Can you still get the VH tone? AIC? BLS?, ACDC?
