I got to hear a Nitro cranked in a live setting that was not mine. Me and the wife went to the SDS concert here in Jax. I don't know if it was the sound guy, mic placement, yada yada, but it sounded like mud. The clean sounded good, but the distortion was muddy and didn't project like I thought it would. They use Senheiser 609 mics, so I can't blame it on that. I dunno. I was gassin to hear it live from an audience standpoint. Disappointed. Don't get me wrong though.....it blew away the fizzy dual or triple rec the singer was playing. It just wasn't what I expected. I was kinda expecting Brad Noah's tone with more guts. His tone at the same venue killed. Even my wife commented that it didn't sound quite like what she has heard out of mine. Anyone know what speakers the dude from SDS is using? Maybe it was the speakers. To me it sounded like he is using BB/SB in the Splawn cab. I got a similar muddy woofy tone when I used them. I didn't get a chance to talk to the fella to see what was up with the tone (had to get home to relieve the babysitter). The SDS show was good though. Those guys are really true to the cause.

You should ask him yourself, Jeremy is a member of this board. I can't wait to catch SDS live. -Brent

Seventh Day Slumber I think, and yeah, I've seen him post on these boards. Great band.

Yeah they are an awesome band. I was just gassin like I said intially to hear the Nitro in a live setting that I'm not playing. It just didn't cut like Brad Noah's Quickrod did at the same venue. Brad's tone was brutal and I was thinking it was going to be the same, but instead it was muddy and really didn't cut through the mix at all. I know my Nitro projects in the studio when practicing with live drums etc. I was thinking it would do the same thing live. It was very weird and when your wife notices the tone then there may be a problem. I wish I could have spoke with him after the show, but we had to bail during the singers testimony/alter call to relieve the babysitter. I have heard a bad mic placement before mess up where the guitar sits in the mix. It didn't sound like that at all. Or he could have gotten the -10db on the board treatment that may have caused it to get lost in the mix due to high volume. I dunno.

Bad mic placement could be an issue, but I would think those guys know what they're doing at the venue and unless it was really terribly placed, it probably wasn't the biggest contributor.
