Hey, everyone. Long time lurker, first time poster, yada yada yada...
Anyway, I'm already the proud pappy of a Splawn el-34 based Pro Stock and just got off the phone with Scott placing an order for a Nitro. Since he's so backlogged right now, I still have some time to decide if I want to go kt-88, kt-77, or el-34 with this bad boy, so I'm going to be trolling for opinions here on which way I should sway.
Let me explain first what I'm looking to do: originally I was going to pick up a Bogner Uberschall so that I could track with both the Competition and the Uber at the same time, and then just use the fader with the Uber on it as a glorified bass/low-mids boost as needed, if at all. I figured they covered two very different spectrums and this *might* work (or I could sell the Uber if it didn't). However, I've never been much of a fan of an Uberschall as a standalone sound, at least for the type of tone I'm looking for, so I'd only ever really be using the Bogner occasionally when using the Competition, which is pretty much a waste of an amp. Thus, enter the Nitro...
The Nitro isn't by any stretch of the imagination light years away from the Competition like the Uberschall pretty much is; BUT, and this is a really big butt (yes, pun intended), the Nitro sounds fantastic on its own. So, by going the way of the Nitro I essentially pick up double the utility over the Uberschall, which was enough to sway me to write the proverbial check (for the "proverbial" amp -- another bad pun if you've ever looked on the inside of a Splawn amp) for a Splawn Nitro.
So, that brings me back to the question on how to set up the Nitro to mix most interestingly with a Competition. A general vibe seems to exists that the Nitro sits somewhere in the ether as a hybrid between the Quickrod and the Uberschall, so I'm already leaning towards kt-88s to maximize the distinction. Anyone else out there with a Nitro also have a Quickrod or Competion and would like to chime in on how the do/don't mix? My knee jerk would be to just get the kt-88s, but all the clips I've heard have just been either kt-77 or el-34s, so I'm not sure if a kt-88 Nitro would still be the standalone thing I'm looking for or not.
Thanks!

p.s. I'm also going to monkey around with pre-amp tubes, but since that doesn't require tweaking bias resistors 'n things, that is why I'm emphasizing the power tube question at this time prior to the amps build; but feel free to offer up any suggestions there as well for optimally mixing the two amps.
