Ok I need some help from the guys who went to the convention and heard the Nitro in person. I have a Quick Rod Build date coming up in early November and can modify to get the Nitro if I chose to. It is easy to hear the Nitro is more modern and definitely a beast. I love the low thump action that TJ was talking about, etc..
So my question is even though everybody is raving about the Nitro right now if you were sitting right now without a Splawn at home and this was your first purchase which would you go with?
I know musical styles and influences, etc... will affect each persons input. I grew up in the 80s and love the sounds of Dokken, Maiden, Lynch Mob, etc... But I also love the sounds of Zack Wylde on BLS and more modern metal guitar.
I know the Quick Rod is perfect for all things 80's period. And it seems the Nitro will cover the more modern territory.
So two questions in all:
1) If you were only buying one which one would you buy and what are your musical tastes? 2) Can the Nitro hit those 80s tones, can the saturation be tuned back and EQ'd to get less heavy and more mid range pushed. Hope that made sense....
It sucks to gas when you already have an amp on order, LOL

also, it's got a resonance knob..so you can dial back some of that bass....being that most of us either have QR or PM already, we all really wanted to just bring the metal with it..lol..so not many of us messed with knobs

That is what I was thinking, did anybody take the time to listen to the clean tones and see what all types of other tones can be gotten from it. It is definitely a metal machine, it devours in the videos, but before I made any modifications to go from the QR to the Nitro I would want to know it had a good clean tone, at least comparable to the QR and what range of tones can be gotten from it.
I am thinking about staying with the QR for now since I know exactly what it is capable of overall and I really love the tones that come from it.

clean tones are the same as the QR...
since you don't have a splawn yet i would seriously say to go the QR route...

I don't know?? I think I'd say go with the Nitro. If you're a fan of Zakk and BLS this amp nails it. Like Shred said you can dial back some of the low end with the resonance knob. With the 77's it still nails the Dokken, 80's metal tones. That's the great thing about it. It can get friggin nasty if you want but it still has that Splawn characteristic. Just my two cents.

Well TJ two things have been answered for me, it has good clean tones like QR and you said it can still nail the 80s stuff with dialing it back and the Splawn characteristics. The fact it will hit the BLS stuff is awesome as well, since I have not hard that sound in the QR. You said something in another post that interested me also, and that is it sounds awesome at low volumes.
Knowing these things definitely pushes me towards the Nitro a bit.

scott and company have been working on low volumes for all his amps...being that more and more people are using them in their homes he addressed it..

My band plays metal ala old Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, etc...with a lot of various 80's style stuff. We get somewhat modern at times also with riffage akin to bands like Killswitch Engage and Lamb of God. I was at the convention, and If I didn't own a Splawn, I'd still get the QR. The other guitarist in my band (redneckgeetarist) here on the forum) obviously plays the same stuff as me. He doesn't own a Splawn, but is buying one and has the option to get either he wants. After attending the convention, he's still getting the QR.
Just our $0.02. Everyone has different tastes.

I listened to the clips and so far I still prefer the QuickRod. But a few clips alone don't mean much, I'd need to hear more or have the 2 amps side by side to do a good comparison. I did notice that in the side by side clips where Scott and TJ were trading leads that the Quickrod just stomped all over the Nitro in terms of cutting through the mix. It's probably the voicing of the amp, but lots of lows and scooped mids never did cut well, and the QR is all cut.

Take into consideration that the QR TJ was playing was turned up considerably louder than those playing on the Nitro. I personally would go with the Nitro if I was ordering my first Splawn for myself. It just fits the style of music I play better. I have the Pro Mod now and love it but I am considering ditching it for the Nitro.

OK, DD thanks for the advice. Note to self: If playing Indigo Girls, Pet Shop Boys, or Thompson Twins, the Nitro would be best. ;D Suck on that biatch!!!!! ;D

Bro, I am really bummed to have missed it, but my son showed up 5 weeks early as I expected he would. He was born at 2:51 AM on 09/29/2007. After watching the videos of all the fun you guys had, I am wondering why he sort of looks like TJ. ;D Really though, it looks like you guys had a great time and I hope I can go next year. You guys are all great players too.
