Okay I have new 2007 quickrod 1 and a half month old. It has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much bass. It makes the speakers fart at 9 O'clock. I can turn the bass all the way off and it thins out (sounds like crap) but doesn't fart anymore. The amp was super tight the first couple of times I played it. After a live practice and volumes around 10 O'clock consistently for a couple of hours the amp now flubbs and farts through the speakers. I thought it was the Big Block and small blocks that I put into my cab recently. It is getting worse. Any Ideas or help? I have cranked the amp once to about 3/4 full volume to see how loud it gets. Is it the power tubes going bad? Even puttng it on half volume it farts and flubbs. I'm going to call Josh at Splawn tomorrow to see if they have any advice. Tubes should not go out this quick unless it wasn't biased correctly.

Ok.....so this happened after you changed speakers? Or after rehersal? Or both? Im confused. either way, you shouldnt have to run the bass all the way off. Something is very wrong. Did you install the speakers? Wiring is 100% correct.....pos/neg/ohms? I agree you tubes shouldnt be bad, but it is possible. Do you have another set of power tubes you could throw in just to see if it makes a diff? Just double check all the simple things you can, cables, wiring, tubes. Eliminate those first and go from there. SN

Everything is correct as far as wiring is concerned. I even played it through my 1960a that is still wired from the factory. Same thing flubb and fart. It seems something may have gone out or is malfunctioning. I'm going to call Splawn tomorrow to see if they may know what is wrong or if a tube has gone out. Also I don't know if this is normal, but even when I turn the volume knob all the way off I can still play through the amp. It is very weak, but still comes through.

What settings were you using this go around? I can say that Gear 2 puts out too much bass...for me. I'm in the same boat as you with it. Thickens up the tone versus Gear 1, but the bass is a little overkill. I don't have the flubiness problem, but the low end is too much. Even with the Bass knob around 10 o'clock, it has borderline too much on Gear 2 (unless you like nu-metal). You can't turn it down anymore than that because it starts to thin out after that. So, I've just resorted to using Gear 1 these days. Punch and attack, eliminates the bass problem. I wish my Gear 2 was voiced the same, only with the bass similar to that in Gear 1.

This seems strange. I like low end a lot and use Les Pauls with my Quickrod and if anything, I find that I can crank the bass control up pretty high and the amp stays really tight. No flubbiness or farting, even with the LP's neck pickup. This is 2nd and 3rd Gear, bass control up around 2:00-3:00 through a Soldano 2x12 cab.

Well I called Splawn. Josh spoke with Scott who advised to try switching it to half power and then swapping out the power tubes. No success. Still farting and flabbing at 9 O'clock on the volume. If that didn't work he said to try replacing the pre amp tubes. No success. Still flabbing. I dunno what the deal is. The amp was super tight when I first got it recently, then after one good practice it went down hill. Instead of chugga chugga it goes honka honka or gong gong. To me it sounds like if I turned the bass knob and depth knob all the way up on my Randall MTS tube head. It sounds like playing a bass head through a guitar cab. There is no eqing it out. Something is very wrong with the amp or tubes or both. Its going to collect dust until I can get the problem fixed.

anything else new in the signal chain? P/U, cable, new pedal, etc. I went through something similar, but it was the high end. Try using a different guitar cable...if you have one. Just to see if there is a difference.

I've tried everything I can think of and nothing works (cables, plugging straight into the amp, trying different cabs, putting a volume pedal in the effects loop, you name it I tried it). Its hard to describe. The head is pushing so much bass I would have to install subwoofers to handle it. It shakes the cymbols and snares on the drum kit in a sound proofed 16X20 room at 8 O'clock on the volume. Its pushing the speakers to the max at this volume. Like I said before it wasn't doing this when I first got it, so I'm thinking either the power tubes went south or something in the amp itself went out. Instead of a tight chugga chugga choo choo its now a honka honka gong gong flab flab fart. Im going to try and see if I can talk to Scott about it today. Its definately not the same amp it was the first day I got it. I'm hoping he has a solution. It is totally not usable at this point unless I can find a bass cab to run it through.

Well the amp is going back to Splawn for diagnosis and repair. One of the transformers may have gone out or was defective etc.

That's a drag that you gotta send a brand new amp back, but rest assured that it will be fixed and ready to rock. None of the things you described sounded like a healthy amp...

Yeah something is definantely wrong with the amp. It was super tight and the bass was controllable when I got it. Like I said before I only cranked it once to about 3/4 volume and then turned it back down to save what is left of my hearing. I don't see where that should blow the amp up. Its like buying a new corvette. You have to see what it can do, thats why you bought it. It still worked fine after turning it up (that was the first day I got it). I tinkered with it a little here and there to get the perfect tone for band practice. Ran it at about 10 O'clock on the volume for about two hours total. Still no problems. Then I would say a week later it started getting bassier and was overloading my cab. I got my new Bigs and Smalls in. l was able to turn the amp down to get a good feel for the speakers even though there was too much bass, but the amp progessively got worse and then the flabbing, honking, and gonging started. I'm not sure if there is a choke somewhere in the amp. If there is such a thing I think it may have gone out. I hope they can find what is wrong with it. I know that Scott takes great pride in his amps, so I am not mad. I think it is a bad part or something out of his control. Definantely not a workmanship issue.

Lifter, Sorry to hear about the bass problem. I'm sure the Splawn guys will get it working just fine. I find that the QR doesn't have quite enough bass for me. I use a BBE sonic maximizer on mine to give it even more low end.
