Hello everyone. I am new to the forum but have owned a Splawn before and foolishly was talked into selling it. I recently stumbled onto a really early Pro mod from a local seller. 2004, all Mercury iron and choke with 4-EL34’s. It has the clean/solo volume in the input Jack spots and a high low input. I’m trying to figure out the volume matrix. The two regular volume knobs run as master on the left and gain on the right for the overdrive channels. Is it normal for the gain pot on the drive side to affect the clean channel? Clean channel thins out if the preamp control is backed off. Is it just the design of the gain stages? The one i sold had independent controls for clean and overdrive. I know, you don’t buy one for the clean sounds but the clean sounds better with the drive side preamp pushed past what I consider optimal for the overdrive setting I use. This thing is a flame thrower. No half power unfortunately as it gets painfully loud when the power amp is getting pushed. Glorious sounds though. The aggressive nature of this amp is just a lot of fun to play. Super tight yet a thumping but tight low end. I have a FriedMan small box for classic Marshall tones or a couple Budda SuperDrive amps that are great for what they do. The Splawn kinda reminds me of a Lee Jackson modded JMP I owned but has a more prominent low end without losing its presence. Tracks lightning fast. You need to be on your game with these or you’ll hear every mistake loud and clear. Thanks for any input in advance.
