I just got a Splawn 4x12 with the Small Block speakers. This cab completely and totally sucks! It is WAAAAAYYY too bassy, completely lacks upper mids, and gets lost in a band mix. My Splawn head rules. The tone is a work of art. I feel like the reasoning is that the Splawn head is on the bright and shrill side, so we’ll use some speakers that tone it down. It toned it down all the way. It toned it down so far it killed it. I hate this sound. This amp head, when plugged into my Peavey XXX 2x12 combo speakers sounds bright, bouncy, interesting, burny. The same head plugged into the Splawn cab sounds sterile, lifeless, smooth, cold. I couldn’t possibly be more disappointed. If I took the back off and found bass speakers in there, it wouldn’t surprise me. If you prefer your Splawn tone out of these Small Blocks instead of V30’s, you have no taste in high gain guitar tone whatsoever. The whole “Splawn doesn’t go with v30’s” internet parroting is stupid. You are all wrong. This thing sounds completely and totally horrible. It’s like someone wanted to design a cab that makes my tube amp sound like a solid state amp. I can’t believe how bad it is. I read nothing but good reviews from all the Gear Page parrots. If you like Small Blocks, you and I are not tonal friends. Walk that way.

I guess I don’t know anything about tone then and apparently I’ve lost a friend I never had. LMAO
