Man the admins at Gear Talk are pricks. They are rude and unprofessional. Seen them post snarky rude remarks in forums and i reported one post that was someone insulting someone and calling them names. I got a reply from admin saying "this is not TGP, these reports are waste of time".
I've seen them tell people to take the door if they aren't happy with the way they run it. Lol brutal

..and this is the main reason I shy away from actually joining forums these days.  I mainly do more reading, and even if I feel compelled to join.. I rarely post unless I feel it can contribute to the overall good of the forum.  I went through a phase of heavy forum activity many years ago, mainly in the JCF and Kramer Guitar Forums.  Been on both sides of the fence as the insider and the outsider.  Many forums to me, are very "clique-ee", for lack of a better word.  If you're in the clique, you're golden.  If not, you're somehow considered inferior.  And for many, the almighty "post count" is the be-all/end-all of perceived "intelligence" in the platform so you have people that just drone on and on about nothing so they can feel good about that number by their name.

I got over that a long time ago.. LOL

Yeah so true. That's why I enjoyed this forum for so long because it was not run like that.

Gear Talk or Rig Talk?

Just wondering, a lot of us (as you know!) have been posting in the new Splawn area on Rig Talk...  seems OK but I've just been in the Splawn area.

Not cool, where ever that was.

Yeah it's rig talk. My bad......don't know why i called it gear talk. I think one of the posts they were being pricks was one that gtrjunior posted about the 50 posts required to access classifieds?

Gotcha, yeah found that thread... Man that's just kinda sad.  gtrjunior asks a valid question and gets treated like that?  

But... as someone somewhere pointed out these forums can get very cliquey and annoying.  That's what had me move on from HCGF wayyyy back when.

I checked out the thread you guys are talking about.. Yes a few replies were out of line especially if you are the moderator. It is listed in the feed back / how to make RT better... I guess those guys are trying to over compensate for the lack in their pants or at home they have no say so they can be important on the internet... To the family here hope everyone is doing well and enjoy your weekend..

For what it is worth guys...

First of all, I understand the complaint about Rig-Talk's Classified policy of 50 posts.

What I tell people is to just find a quiet subforum within R-T and just rack up some posts if you don't want to post in the main forum. Hell, you could probably create a thread in the Off Topic forum that says "I'm going to rack up 50 posts in my thread here so if you don't like it, ignore it.

I do understand why the 50 post count policy is there. It is really the only rule you have to overcome. As others mentioned in gtrjunior's thread from 2016 or whatever is that there are some other popular forums (TGP and SS) that have more stringent rules or pay to play. I don't frequent those forums nor do I buy/sell through forums (mainly because I'm pretty set now).

Mailman Dan is a good guy. He didn't attack gtrjunior directly. His comment about 'the door is this way' seemed more directed to JohnnGeek. And like he said, he didn't create the rule, he just has to enforce it and and I think because he is only of the only active moderators on that forum - he gets bombarded with complaints.

I like Rig-Talk because it is NOT overly moderated and I'm not the type that can handle 4 or 5 guitar forums so I've just settled on Rig-Talk as my main place for information and conversation.

Again, not trying to say your complaints are not valid. You are all my brothers so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah, no worries Splawndude. I’m not at all upset about it. I wouldn’t have even seen it had it not been pointed out. That’s how often I visit there, next to never. My main forum is the Seymour Duncan users group.
It is what it is....

There are a few guys that have a Splawn but not many. Most of the guys are around our age with a few older and a few younger. But generally a rock-centric crowd. Anything for classic to modern.
All in all a good bunch of guys.
I like it there because there are enough member to keep the conversation lively and moving along but not so many that by the time you see a thread it’s already 42 pages long. Lol. Like TDPRI.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I haven't had any problems. It is not a heavily moderated site and there are certainly bad apples there that can ruin it for others.
