Thought maybe this topic might spark a little discussion.. I tried a search on "resale", and only came up with one thread from way back. Thought I might start another "fresh" one.
So, what do you think? Why is the resale on Splawn amps so low? Before I bought my Quick Rod, I explored the used market and could have bought the same amp (albeit in a different tolex cover) for about $400 less than what I paid for mine brand new. But, after reaching out to Scott, and talking to him I decided to go with a new build and I've never regretted it for a mintute. I got exactly what I wanted, along with the lifetime warranty by buying direct. Not to mention that Scott's customer service is miles above what you would get just about anywhere else.
That being said.. I got my Nitro for what I considered a steal on the used market. I think I gave around $800 for it shipped to my door from GC used, and I just couldnt' pass that up. Granted, when it got here it had a bad preamp tube and I suspect that might have been why it was so cheap on the GC website. It was squealing something aweful when it got here, and I wonder if the GC that had it didn't want to mess with trying to figure out why and just dumped it. They had it discounted by a huge amount, and I think the only reason it was even there was that I happen to work nights and was skulkin' around the GC website at about 2AM and saw it before anyone else did.. LOL
Anyway, it just amazes me that they don't hold value like I feel that they should. It's great for people that might be in the market for a superior amp and an amazing price.. but I know that has to be a thorn in Scott's side as well.

Wow that is a great deal you got on your Nitro! If an amp is selling for 400 less than its retail price, i think that is holding value very well! Some marshalls sell for over 2k and a month later it's only fetching 1300 on used market. Here in Canada, a used Quick Rod with new options sell between $1800 to $2300 canadian. They rarely pop up on used market here however.

Yeah, I couldn't pass up the Nitro at that price.. Wasn't too crazy about the red tolex, but for that price I can live with it.. lol
The $400 price difference was why I decided to go with Scott and get a new one. Figured for that difference, I might as well get the options I wanted as far as tolex color, head shell, etc.. I know that guy had that fully loaded QR head listed on Ebay for a LOOOOONG time though, and I don't know if he ever sold it or just ended up pulling the listing down. I know it was up on Ebay for at least 6 months, and probably longer. I think my fully loaded QR was right around $2300 shipped in early 2020, but I see QR's listed for sale all over the place ~$1500 or even less and they still have a hard time selling for that.
I wonder if it's just that people are unaware of just how good these amps are?

Yeah 1500 US is about 1800 canadian. I think they have a good reputation as a quality amp comparable to Friedmans. I just think it's not easy to sell an amp these days for couple thousand dollars during crazy times we are currently in.

I have chatted with Scott just to check in with him to see how things are going and how business is.. He has mentioned in the past that the used market has hurt his New Amp sales. Last time over facebook messenger he mentioned things have picked up so I hope that it continues this trend for him. Scott is a Class act and great to deal with. For the most part he is a one man show and to be honest I think its great that the product you are buying has been in Scotts hands and he himself has worked on it... Over the past few years I have bought a 2012 and 2020 Quickrod 4x12 cab, 2x12 cab and a SS1 Guitar from Scott and definitely don't regret it. I have my eye on a Nitro but one of the Quickrods would need to go.. With 3 tube heads already I don't need four.. Crank the Glass feel the Love
