No more Russkie pickups?!
I had a Custom Custom in my Kramerstein years ago, it sounded great. I like my Custom/59 Hybrid I have in my PRS now. My new Tumnus in front of my Street Rod beefs it up nicely for leads if needed.
Did ya know the rumor is that EvH had Seymour build him the Custom Custom and he used it at one time. I believe it, 14K with Alnico 2 magnet, right up Ed's alley, bit more output and "oomph" but has the more vintage sound of an A2. I swapped out my CC for a "custom made" EvH pickup from some guy who did that. This was years ago, I like that pickup but the CC was indeed awesome!
I still have the Russian pickups in 2 guitars. My Gibson LP Special with p90’s and my Kramer Focus 2000.
In my LP Standard I wanted to try something different.
Several years ago I had a Bluesbucker neck in this guitar and I loved it. But that one had a chrome cover on it. It ended up being black bobbins when I took the cover off and I was going for the double cream look.
The CC is actually parchment in color but it’s really, really close in color to the cream.
It’s a really big sounding pickup. It occupies a lot of the tonal spectrum. Which is good for me since I’m in a one guitar band. Plus it doesn’t get much bigger sounding than a LP through a QR....
Yeah I've read that the CC is best if you're the lone guitar in a band. That was my situation at the time, or at least if there was another guitar it sounded nothing like mine.. It does indeed cover a lot of the tonal spectrum.
