So I auditioned for a band last week, they're a lot mellower than any band I've played with before. Was just the singer and the other guitarist for this audition... bassist was out of town and drummer was sick. It went well (they want me!) but I'm going to play with the full band (and see what's happening with my current band) before making a decision.
It was interesting, no drums this time but they had backing tracks. They played really softly. I had my loop volume at about 1/4 of the way up at most and backed off the gain channel volume a bit (probably about 9:00). It actually sounded pretty good... on my neck pickup. With my other band I mainly play on the bridge pickup but in this situation it just sounded *way* too thin, but the neck pickup did the job. We did Santana/Michelle Branch and other songs in that vein.
Just wondering if you Splawners have played really low and what you do to get a bit more "oomph" to the sound. With drums in the mix it will be louder but they were saying it's not that much louder. I'm OK with playing softly, it's easier on the ears and you can hear a lot more nuances in everyone's playing.
I know Splawns (well any tube amp) like to be turned up but that's not in the cards for this project. I was kinda smiling to myself "If only they knew how loud I can actually get with this thing... bwah-hah-hah!"

I’m assuming by softly you mean quietly and are not referring to playing with a lighter touch?
I’m not sure if you’ve seen the “Rooster” video on here of my band. My settings that night (like most nights) are with the master somewhere around 9:00-9:30 and the loop about 1/3 up. It’s plenty loud....I have a 100 watter though. I run a little guitar in my monitor so I don’t need to be super loud on stage and at that venue they have a house sound man so the FOH is on him.

Thanks, that vid is good! Curious, what pickup were you using in the LP?
