Awhile back I bit the bullet and ordered a new headshell and matching 2x12 unloaded cabinet. I’ve been so excited to get them here. I ordered a JCM style headshell for my Quickrod. It previously was in a Plexi style shell. I did not realize the JCM 800 shell would be wider and therefore leaving a large gap on both sides of my amp. major facepalm.

I see pictures on google of Quickrods in JCM shells everywhere, so what gives? Is there a wider Quickrod chasis? Is this brand new headshell useless with my Quickrod?

I’m so bummed man, the 2x12 and Headshell are gorgeous. If I can’t get this to work I may see if Scott would accept my headshell back but I wouldn’t blame him for not doing so, it’s my mistake.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Can you measure the chassis length?

The ones I see on Google Images that are in JCM 800 style shells all look normal to me.

I searched on Quick Rod 50.

How much space do you have on each side?

Can you post a pic?

Chasis measures 24” the opening in the headshell measures just under 26”

Just got an email back from Scott, apparently the 50 watt is in a smaller chasis. And I did not specify which I had when ordering. Talk about a bummer.

That sucks. Not the end of the world though.

I never would have guessed that the 50w version would have a different chassis so I personally would not have known to ask. 20 watt? Yeah sure, but not 50.

1.) See if Scott will take it back - I'm sure he can resell it as new no problem
2.) See if you can sell the shell yourself and start over - still a damn nice shell, I doubt it would be too hard
Keep in mind there are people constantly looking for marshall headshells, meaning you keep the Splawn logo
That's what happened with me. Someone was looking for a plain plexi shell, which I had, and they had the red striped so we traded.
3.) You might be able to find some kind of black tolexed block to stick in there.
4.) Go get yourself a 100 QR and run at half power like me - and either start over or find someone who wants to trade the amp but not the shell (ding ding ding)

I think I see one like yours on reverb. I hope that is not you. I think I do see a space on that one too.

Scott, being the awesome guy he is, is going to build me a new front plate for it. Says I’ll be able to swap it out pretty easily.

Wow. That is fooking amazing. What a guy.

I wonder if it will be a brand new custom plate or just a standard 100w version plate. I would absolute love to see the progress on this - as far as how to do it. Mine actually has a weird 'scratch/fold' type thing on it (probably from taking it in and out of the headshell so much) so I've always been curious about what it would take to put a new one on.

No worries - I won't be hitting up Scott anytime soon for such a project. He's busy enough.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I am talking about the front panel of the headshell. That’s what he’ll be sending me, one that has the appropriate cutout for a 50w chasis. A nitro style front plate I’m assuming. Still pretty badass.

Oh OK. That actually makes more sense and hella lot easier LOL. I was thinking it was going to be a longer plexi panel.

With the 800 style - I'll be curious as to how this turns out as it is still not real clear to me.

Yeah. Maybe. Ain't no JCM shell though. That's just a plexi front with basket weave in a cut out. Still looks ballin.

That is the Nitro style head shell.
Same as what I have except mine is different colors with a clear plexiglass instead of the weave.
