I'm ordering a new headshell for my Nitro and apparently my OT is a bit bent. It's a Heybooer I believe before they went to the current transformers. I've never noticed any issues. Should I get this replaced or do you think it's mostly cosmetic?

If it’s working properly I don’t see any reason to replace it.

What would be the symptoms of it being damaged? As far as I can tell its loud and the tone seems fine.

Well, I’ve never had to replace one but I would guess that you would hear a loss of volume and possibly a degradation of tone too. I don’t know how to do it but it can be tested for functionality too. I have my JCM800 being modded by a local guy and however you test it, he tested mine and was able to tell that it’s working correctly. I’ll bet there’s a YouTube video on it.

cn2667.. You should be good to go from what I remember when I ordered my Quickrod in 2012 with that transformer it happened a lot during the shipping process. Grab the vitamin V and crank it up..
