I got to spend another good 2 hours with my 2018 Fully Loaded Quickrod yesterday and I am even more convinced that I made the right decision purchasing it. Im loving Gear 1 OD2 DropB+ for the early VH tone as it delivers to my ears true VH tone and for my Dokken "Under Lock and Key" and Ratt "Invasion of your Privacy" tone Gear 2 OD2 really nails it in my opinion. I had my reservations about the tubes that were in there and thought I may have to change some things until I got to really hear the tone and again Scott really knows his stuff because the the Power Tubes are awesome and the preamp tubes just freaking sing. Anyone on the fence about this wonderful amp should just pull the trigger like I did. You wont be sorry. From the quality of the build to the cost of the QR which is half the cost compared to some other modded marshall style amps and how Scott was so patient and helpful with all my question its a no brainer that the QUICKROD and all SPLAWN have to offer freaking ROCKS!!! I cant wait to spend more quality time with it. Cheers guys. Mike

But but but you are telling us something we already know lol j/k - glad you enjoy your amp. Splawn amps rock there is no doubt. It is not something we just say to make ourselves feel good. I've been through lots of different tubes but yes, I hear Scott has found his magic blend of tubes these days. PS: Huge fan of VH, George and Warren. And Reb.

Last time I changed power tubes I tried a couple of different brands. But the ones I liked the best are what Scott is using. I bought them through Tube Depot though but they are the same Chinese tubes they shipped with. I have however, changed the preamp tubes around several times.
Which preamp tubes got shipped with yours...still the Chinese 12ax7B’s?

Which preamp tubes got shipped with yours...still the Chinese 12ax7B’s? Yes the Chinese 12AX7B's. I thought for sure I was going to have to do some tube changing but these are some excellent sounding preamp tubes. Even the VALVE ART EL34B's Scott chose are excellent. But then again who am I to question Scott. He knows what is going to make his amps the best they can be. The other thing Im trying to figure out is what poer transformers are in my amp. From the numbers on top of the two transformers I did a Google search and the brand I think Scott is using now is Classic Tone. They dont say Classic Tone on them but from these number Im assuming they are. Either that or they are generic Classic Tone. If anyone knows the brand please chime in. Thank you
Middle Transformer: NOS17482 166-1823
Side Transformer: 40-17462 166-1803

Before I got my QR I was playing a 1986 JCM 800 2204. I have all NOS tubes in that amp and they sounded great. When I got the QR one of the first things I did was swap in some NOS tubes. But you know what? I feel like with the Splawn the New Production tubes sounded better. Right now I’m running V1: New Mullard 12ax7 V2: JJ Long plate V3: JJ standard V4: IIRC NOS Telefunken. I was thinking I might swap a Chinese 12ax back into V3 because it seems to be a bit harmonically tighter than the JJ, which feel a bit warmer to me.
My QR has a Classic Tone Tranny. It’s 2016 fully loaded QR.
