Anyone who has Splawn Smallblocks absolutely loves and swears by them. That alone says a lot. I was going to go that route when I ran into the used quad of EVH for $400 and I snapped them up. With the more modern / aggressive tones available in 2nd and 3rd gear of the QR I bet those smallblocks really sing. I will say, the 20 watt EVHs can become a little loose on the bottom with the Nitro as you begin to push the volume. Everything is a compromise, right?!?!?

Iām a noob to all of this but please specify the desired wattage for the creambacks and the greenbacks?
I think the creams come in 65 watts and 75 watt versions and the greenbacks 20 Watts or 25 watts?
Again these are in an x pattern for a 4x12 cab for a quick rod running at full power.
Briman please........šš

You are correct Rodburner. Creambacks come in 65 and 75 watts and greenbacks 25 watt. The EVH's are 20 watts.
I used EVH'S in my 4x12 Splawn cab for about 4 or 5 years. They were good but break up really quick. I thought they were great until I tried greenbacks in x pattern with creambacks and was blown away how awesome they sounded. Have a nice aggressive bite on edge with very smoooth and warm mid range and tight bottom. I felt my EVH'S lacked the tight bottom and mids weren't as warm but this is all user opinion. What some dislike....others love. I am a 80's hard rock and huge van halen nut to give you an idea of what tone i like.
My other Quick Rod has 4x12 with governors and man o wars in x pattern and sounds similar to my other cab.

Briman please........šš I think this was addressed already but keep in mind, as an FYI, if you run Creams and Greens in an X pattern like Briman does, you can only add up the wattage of the lowest wattage speaker. So if you had 2 - 75w creambacks and 2 - 25w greenbacks your total wattage for cab will be: 4 x 25w That is still 100w so you're still good just thought I'd point that out. This would be more relative if you had 2 - 150w speakers and 2 - 20w greenbacks in an X pattern your total wattage would still only be 80w.

I know that general consensus for a QR is that is not best pair with V30, but right now I have old G12M Blackback on top and V30 on the bottom and it sounds wonderfull. V30 is tight and heavy, while G12M on top is more woody, vintage sounding, that combination is very pleasing standing next to a cab. I've tried recording both speakers and both sounds excellent with the same eq.

Indeed. So you`re using three different speakers in there , interesting . I`ve heard of people doing that . Obviously it`s working for you

Yeah sounds great. I never record so no problem. I wouldn't be able to choose which speaker to mic lol.

I must say I've never seen anyone do that before. If it works it works. Close enough anyway right? It is not like you have drastically different speakers going on. So if you mic them separately you can def hear the difference?
Pretty cool man.
