I’ve been taking about this for a long time now. Short backstory. About 2 years ago I was approached about forming a band with some local guys that I’ve admired for a while. We got together and jammed a few times and all was going good. It was at this time that I ordered my Quickrod from Scott. I also began building a homemade pedalboard with a LOT of help from my father. We began planning and got into the early stages of the build and of course, the band imploded, as these things happen. So with no real band I put this build on the back burner and assembled a small but usable “basic” board for the Quickrod. In the meantime I did a few fill in gigs with a local band. Then that band broke up. But a few months ago the drummer and singer from that band called and we have a new project now.....so I needed to get this board done. And here it is: It has a cover that is mounted via a set of detachable hinges and two clips on the sides. Once the cover is removed I designed it to resemble a pedal train style board. The biggest difference being that the mounting surface is on a piano hinge where I can essentially hide my power strip and junction box as well as the pedal power supply(s). I hardwired the power strip to a male outlet accessible from the outside with a standard extension cord.

I’ll be taking a few pedals from my small essentials only current board. I’ll then be adding these others: Once wired up they will all be controlled by this. I’ll be making all my own custom cables and wiring the Mobius and Andromeda up to be midi controlled as well. It’s going to be a TON of work but it’s a labor of love. Edit:Not sure what happened with the sideways and upside down pics....my apologies.

First mock up: Delay, Mobius, HOF, G-String and possibly the RC booster in the loop (as a clean boost on the clean channel only) The rest out front with the BB as a boost for the OD channel. I’m trying to leave a little space for the cluster of cables that will be connected to the switcher. At some point in the (hopefully) near future the HOF reverb will be replaced with a Seymour Duncan Silver Lake reverb. I’m open to suggestions on routing, placement etc!!! I may move the wah to the left of the switcher and have the switcher all the way on the right. I’d like to keep the delay up front for tap-tempo purposes, even though I’ll probably never use it. Lol

Ok 2nd mock up. I think this version works much better to accommodate signal flow and to keep the stuff that’s going on the Fx loop and in front separate. The orange pedal is a caveman overdrive and the one on the top right is a clone of a Marshall Gov’nor. I’m not sure if I’m keeping both on the board or not. I’m going to run them through the QR and see which I like better.

Where is your splawn footswitch going? Or are you leaving it on clean channel and using pedals for od?

With the switcher, there’s no need for the foot switch. The Musicomlab handles it all. Besides I would never choose a pedal over the Splawn OD!!!

I spent the better part of the afternoon making cables. Every cable I made was showing as a short on my tester. Then as I was disconnecting a cable it jumped to “good”. So I decided to test them the old fashioned way, with a guitar and amp. Wouldn’t you know, they all worked and sounded fine. Obviously my tester is no good. And I only burned myself once!! All in all it’s been a pretty good day. Lol

I did a side by side shootout of my 2 OD pedals. A Caveman Drive vs. a Gov’nor clone. Both sounded good but the caveman won in the end. I’ll put the Gov’nor on my Marshall board when I rebuild that one.

I’m looking forward to the long weekend. I’m counting on getting a lot of the wiring done for the board.
I had bought some midi cable a couple of months ago but I’m not able to use them due to space constrictions. Luckily I stumbled across a guy selling some good quality One Control cables at a great price (eBay) so I jumped on them. They should be exactly what I need.
