What does the mid switch do on the Nitro? Is it adding mids back instead of cutting the like on the QR?

On the website those options are only listed under the Quickrod. I’m not sure if they are available on the Nitro?

I think they are available on both. I could be wrong but I think the mids switch boosts it to get closer to a Quick Rod. I read on Facebook someone describing it that way.

This thing sounds killer. I took a few pics, but they are too big. And the condenser mic on my iPhone just doesn’t do this thing justice. Definitely meatier and gainer than my QR, but the mid cut and old / new switches with the Nitro gain structure are incredible. The difference is more subtle than with the QR. On my QR it really jumps out at you when you toggle the mids or go from old to new voicing. You can tell the difference with the Nitro, but it’s not as ‘in your face.’ Even at 50 watts, this baby is LOUD! Roll the resonance and the gain back and add the mids with the switch and you have a very convincing ‘Brown Sound.’ I’d stand a fully loaded Nitro up against an Uberschall, or a Butterslax any day of the week. I’m looking into a decent lil camera with XLR inputs for my Senheiser mic to get a few quality representative clips thrown together.

How does this 50w loaded Nitro compare to the Loaded 50w QR?

How does this 50w loaded Nitro compare to the Loaded 50w QR? So sorry for the delayed response - I need to visit these forums more often! I love my pair of Splawns and I’m glad I have both. But ... that being said ... I can get so close to Nitro territory with my Fully Loaded QR that it makes owning both amps a bit redundant. 3rd Gear in the QR with the ‘new’ style voicing and the mud cut engaged is very Nitro-ish. The only difference is the Resonance control on the Nitro which does add a subtle but noticeable ‘flavor’ to the sound. If you played all heavy stuff with a significant amount of drop tunings or 7-string stuff - you’re a Nitro guy. If you like a lot of versatility - cranked plexi tones - 80’s Hair Metal tones - and the ability to hit some modern metal along the way, then the QR is your Swiss Army Knife. Here is the Nitro with the mids engaged, ‘old’ style tone, and resonance rolled back. Just tried to see how much I could reign in the Nitro Flame Thrower character to get a ‘workable’ brown sound. AT this point I think I could have rolled the gain back even a bit more. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z_biQJsAhQFWIW - have taken to getting all my clean tones just by rolling my guitar’s volume knob back. I use less ‘gain’ and more highs/presence on the amp with the softer 20 watt EVH speakers in my 4x12 which keeps the sound clear as you roll the guitar volume back. I also have a Spark Mini in front of the amp for leads. So I am not using the clean channel very much these days. I have seen a guy on these forums with a new Fully Loaded Competition that has the narrow control panel. Cosmetically, it looks much more like a 1959 amp. I really dig that look - especially if you don’t particularly need a dedicated clean channel.

That sounds really good PDC! Nice juicy mids. You did a great job on the brown sound.
Do you mind if I post this on Rig Talk along with Wolf's?

Mind blown...
I always thought the Nitro was more of a high gain metal only type of amp. The clips I've seen of the Nitro are usually downtuned heavier types of things, fine for what it is but not really my cup of tea.
That sounds fantastic! Great job PDC!

Now that I’ve got some ‘surprise’ time off, I gotta get off my butt and do that! Both the QR and the Nitro sound simply incredible with the G12-EVH (Greenback) speakers in the 4x12. The current clip is with 65 watt Creambacks and the lower wattage speakers are just so much ‘chewier’ and organic sounding. I find I can use quite a bit more presence and treble with the Greenbacks without it getting piercing or ‘ice-picky’ than with the Creambacks. I’ll get some new clips up.
