As you know, I’m in the process of ordering an SS1 guitar from Scott.
It’s a Charvel style build and it’s basically ordered as a custom shop item. You can pick just about anything you want in the guitar.
Color, pickups, wiring options, Neck profile....on and on.
I’m somewhat certain about some of the specs I want in the guitar but I’m curious as to what everyone else considers important to them in a custom guitar.
And also because I’m not 100% certain on all the options I want, I’m hoping that someone else’s thought process might spark an idea for me too!!
Here’s what I’m thinking so far:
SS1
Daphne Blue
Although I love this color, there’s something about a subtle sparkle that I really like too. I’m not convinced that D Blue is the right color for a sparkle. Maybe more of a Slate Grey sparkle?
Gotta have aged nickel hardware.
Floyd (with D-tuna)
Knob
Tuners
Jack plate
Neck plate
Neck:
I’m pretty sure I’m doing the Birdseye maple. The BIG question is what profile I want.
I have a 2012 LP Standard with the 60’s slim taper profile and I love it. It’s a round medium C on the low frets and it flattens a little as you approach the higher frets. However, the original Charvels were known for their fast comfortable necks BUT I’ve never played an original Charvel. I have played a New Mexican made one but I’m not sure it’s the same(?). I don’t mind he wizard profile. I’m not talking about the super thin wizard but the wizard II (I think). That’s the one that most people seem to like. More of a D shape. Then there’s the asymmetrical shapes too...again I’ve never tried one so I have no idea.
Pickups:
I’m a big fan of Dimarzio pickups but I’m not ruling any other brands out either.
The Shur Aldridge set is high on my list too. I’m curious to hear what you guys like in pickups.
The one big thing I want to change is the placement of the volume knob. For me, it’s too close to my picking hand. I’d like it to be lower and back further. Sort of like how Jackson was doing it. Scott’s SS2 (Jackson build) has it like this so I’m hoping it won’t be an issue to push it out of the way.
Let’s hear what your dream guitar is made of!!!
