I went to use my evh flanger last night and it turns on and lights up but there is no flange effect going on.
I took it out of the chain and tried it by itself with the 18v adapter and with batteries and same result. The other night we lost power for 3 hours here due to freezing rain and there were many power surges before it came back in. I suspect maybe the surges damaged something inside the pedal.
I took it all apart and examined the circuit board and didn't see anything like burnt parts or bad solder joints etc. So i cleaned it all with contact cleaner and put back together. It is still not working....π£
I am so mad at myself for forgetting to hook back up the power surge bar 2 weeks ago when i was messing around with finding grounded outlets in my house. I got a grounded outlet but didn't hook up the power surge bar to it damnit...
I have 6 pedals hooked up to voodoo lab pedal power2 and the only pedal not working is the flange but it is the only pedal using 18v (2 ports at 9v).
Anyone else ever had a similar problem like this?
I think i will have to buy another flanger as these are hard to work on and will cost 3/4 of the price of used one minimum to get it repaired.π£

I can't help briman and sorry to hear this.
Every time I think about this pedal I think of you (and vice versa).
A DIY pedal builder is the type of friend you need. Someone that can trace out all the parts of the signal path to find out where the potentially bad resistor or capacitor etc might be and then swap it out. I would have to guess a capacitor on the input power side of the pedal is where I would start. Especially if your fear is correct about the power outage.

Thanks for reply Splawndude! Yeah it 's weird that it turns on and lights up etc but the flange effect is very very faint where you can hardly hear it. I am going to go look at my voodoo power box and see if anything there looks array and switch the cable to another port. Then if that doesn't help, i will take it apart again and turn some of the pots or tapers inside while it's plugged in carefully and see if i can get it full flow again.
If not, i will have to buy another.

Bummer, Bri. I wish I could help you but I donβt know anything about the electronics of a pedal.

Did you ever get this up and running again?

I took it to a company in my neighborhood called Solidgold fx. They sell and repair pedals. He said surface mounted circuit boards are very difficult to work on and repair but he said bring it by and he will see if he can fix it.
Should be getting a call from him this week. There is a $35 bench fee and I forget what his hourly rate was but i told him i only want to spend up to $100 max to fix it.
Funny i had never heard of them before and they have been in business since 2006.

Hopefully he can get it fixed on the cheap for you.

So I got a call from the repair man and he said it would take at least a couple of hours just to pinpoint where the fault is in the circuit. He charges 65 dollars an hour so suggested just buy another one used or new. He waived the 35 dollar bench fee because he took a couple weeks longer to look at it. I am happy with the service he gave me as he said from the beginning that the surface mount boards are very difficult and time consuming to work on.
So after seeing many videos on youtube about people reflowing circuit boards by baking them in their kitchen oven for 7 mins, I figured what the heck..... might as well try before throwing it out. I protected the top where there are plastic covers for the led's and put on a cookie sheet and baked it for 7 mins lol. After it cooled down, I plugged her in and both led's came on but I could switch it off as the switch was no longer clicking. I assume I melted something inside the switch. Also the pots wouldn't turn but I forced them a little harder with a screwdriver and not they turn but only 40 percent of what they used to turn lol. So I melted something in those too lol. Anyways, I will sell it to somebody for the casing and parts that aren't melted. I am now going to buy a used one for sale locally here on kijiji for $150. I am happy I didn't waste any money on a failed repair. Bench fee and 2 hours of labour would have been $200 with tax.

The real question is how did it taste?

LOL I can't believe you did that. I didn't even know that was a thing. I'll have to look that up. If there is a vid in particular that moved you please post. Sorry it didn't work out but I had a feeling you'd need to get a 2nd one. You should of sent it to me. I bet that thing was 'On Fire' and 'Unchained'. 'You Really Got Me' 'Runnin With The Devil'. Any other 'Secrets'?

Yeah there are tons of vids on youtube about re-flowing circuit boards in kitchen oven. It basically heats up the solder in the board and if there were any fractures ....it will fix them after melting.
Greg from Solidgold fx told me that surface mounts are a nightmare to fix and basically are disposable because of the amount of time and cost to repair. Cheaper to buy new one.
I regret putting it in oven though as I could have sold it for $50 roughly for someone who is a tech and willing to invest his time to fix it. I had no idea that pots and switches would not handle the heat.....

I bought one today used off Craigslist for $150 here in Montreal. It is literally brand new in box with all paperwork. The guy never used it as he said it didn't fit on his pedalboard. I am very happy and can't wait to get home and play it.
He paid $279 plus tax which is 15% here in Quebec! Over $300 ......
