I know speakers with splawn have a very big impact on your tone. My 2016 has greenbacks and 2015 creambacks. Greenbacks sound loose and aggressive and the creambacks sound tight and smooth. I like them both though.

I like them both though. I might also try the WGS Veteran 30. I hear it’s like the V30 without the harsh upper mids. The YouTube vids of it sound great.

Just ordered a Veteran 30. Aaaaaand down the rabbit hole I go. Ooh... didn't know about the Veteran 30... I hate Vintage 30's, way too harsh, but if WGS has tamed that harshness... Hmmm........ Edit: I shouldn't tempt myself... cvogue should just listen to himself and realize the creamback sounds great!

There was a YouTube vid with a guy A/B the WGS and the V30. The WGS wasn’t even broken in and it sounded better than the broken in V30.
And if I’m being totally honest, I went back and also ordered aWGS ET-65....ugh.

I think you will be happy with those together. V30 are too harsh for splawn in my opinion.

Yeah, I just feel like the Small Blocks, which are basically a Greenback are just a bit too “grainy” for me. I want something smoother.

Tube swapping is fun.
That is all.
And good luck with your speaker swaps.

I installed the JJ 6CA7....they sound good, but maybe a little too much high end....which surprised me in a JJ. I put the Mullards back in...I LOVE the mids in this tube but again I’m not digging the high end. They sound as close to early VH tone as anything I’ve heard and these tubes sound really good just not exactly what I’m looking for. So it looks like I’ll try the Chinese Shuguangs again because before the amp blew a tube I was loving my tone.
I talked to the shop where I purchased the speakers. Long story short, he is having problems with the WGS sales rep. He believes he can get the speakers for me but right now I’m playing the waiting game. This guys prices are significantly lower than any other online retailer that I have seen so I’ll wait it out and see what happens.

Can't wait to hear what you think about the WGS. Hopefully you will be happy.

I’m sure they will need a break in period but from what I’ve read online they start off sounding great and just get better.

I still haven’t gotten the tubes I ordered from Scott yet (going on 3 weeks) but I ordered a set of Sino from Tube Depot. They arrived yesterday and I installed and biased at 34mA tonight. I GOT MY TONE BACK!!! The Mullard RI and the JJ 6CA7 were good Tubes, but just not for this amp. I’ll bet they will sound great in both my Marshall and the Blackstar though.
The WGS should ship this week. They were away at NAMM last week so I have to play the waiting game on those.

I was just downstairs playing a little and heard a couple of volume fluctuations....I knew immediately that the bias was off. I pulled the amp out of the chassis and checked it. Damn bias drifted up to 39mA!!! I brought it back down to 34ma and waited for a half hour to be certain that it was settled. Plugged in and fired her up....OMG the tone!!! Quite possibly the best this amp has ever sounded. Hopefully over the next few days I don’t see any drift. Not sure about anyone else, but there are definite tonal differences due to bias settings with this amp. I’ve now experienced both too cold and too hot a bias. I’m actually glad I did. Now I have a much better understanding of what is going on. Too hot and I hear a really grainy tone. Too cold and it becomes lifeless and sterile. Both ways I have seen the volume fluctuations and both ways seem to really squash the mids. Anybody else experience anything similar?
