I played the 2nd gig with the Splawn last pm and the other amps on stage were jcm 2000, 77 MKII, and a 50 watt Orange and the Splawn cut through and surpassed them all. I was amazed that even with standing in front of another players amp I could still hear mine over him, friends and other guitar players kept coming up and saying what the hell are you playing through and I told them the Splawn, they were floored. I have always run my 79 master 2203 and loved the tone, but had a hard time boosting for solos, this QR rocked it tubes off last night, paired with an ole 1973 A cab with greenies amazing... Just saying !

So is it safe to assume you got your tube issues all straightened out and you’re up and running at 100%?

Absolutely ! Now this amp is what I have heard about... Warmer it gets the better it sounds. I was joking (maybe not) with my wife about needing a spare Splawn since it sounds so good and has a boost and my marshall does not. Answer was "you think so".. LOL. Now I want to roll different pre amp tubes through it. I have 2 old RCA's in V1 and V2, V3 is a JJ and V4 is a Sovtek lps.

I’d suggest putting one of those RCA’ in V3 and the other in V4. Put that JJ in V2 and get a reissue Mullard for V1....pure Sonic Bliss right there. My reasoning is this. V2 shares a gain stage with V1(clean) so I’d want all of that RCA glory in V3 for the OD channel. The JJ in V2 helps to calm some of the high end without over darkening it (since only 1 triode is for the OD side. And the other RCA in the phase inverter will give it a phenomenal saggy feel. I didn’t like the Sovtek in V1. It wasn’t bad but it was bland...the Mullard really shone there.

Interesting what you say about it sounding better as it gets warmer, I've noticed that with my Street Rod. It sounds good at the start of band practice (maybe 5 minutes of "on standby" warmup before we start playing. Maybe it's my ears but as the night goes on it sounds better and better. After a half hour it really sounds fantastic... had a guest second guitarist who played with us tonight and he was drooling over my SR!

I noticed when biasing the amp the longer I kept it on the more the mA increased till it leveled out. I am going to have to change the R30 though the highest I could get to was 28mA which is a bit short of ideal. The gig we played was with another band and we played 2 songs together at the end of each set. By the last set the other guitar player on my side turned his amp up and had more of his guitar in the monitor than anything else, I kept telling him I didn't tough a thing, just the amp warming up !

^ Great to hear your story on your stage experience.
I'm only a basement dweller.
How long does the meter rise until it levels off just curious.
PS: I won't have any suggestions, just curious.
The times when my meter did wonky things though I'd replace the battery to fix it.

When I biased mine I let it idle for about 20 min to be sure it settled. Once I set the bias I noticed it drifted down. After 2-3 adjustments it settled....but I was being completely anal about it too, so.

Yeah - that's why I tell people to be patient and set aside some time, maybe even leave and come back and check again in a while.

I got my 27k resistor today to replace R30 and was wondering if it can be replaced from the top and not removing the PC board ? Looking forward to getting it up to the 32mA mark !

got R30 changed and biased to 32mA, not a real change in tone other than a bit more fuller. Bias settled in in about 20 minutes and no more increases.
