Anyone know what tubes (pre and power) Splawn’s currently shipping new Quick Rod’s out with? I have a used 2014 which has a volume swell up to normal volume after taken off standby (no matter how long). I sent an email and they responded saying to troubleshoot the tubes so I’m looking at just replacing all of them. Thanks!

I would just buy replacement tubes from a Scott. If you have the stock tubes in your amp they will have a sticker with a number on them. Just tell Scott what # tubes you have and he will send out a replacement set. Iirc, he is using a Chinese EL34B but I’m not exactly sure what brand. I’d guess Shuguang.

Yup good advice Gtrjunior! If you buy elsewhere you will need to pill chasis out and bias.

So I open up the amp and all but V2 are running JJs. V2 is a Splawn labeled Sovtek 12AX7B. I ordered 4 Ruby EL34s and 4 EH 12AX7s (not sure if I’ll leave the Splawn pre in V2 or not.
Any one know Splawn recommended bias settings for a Quick Rod with the B+ mod?

Good question. Might be same as stock QR but not sure so you better ask Scott. Yiu could always just check what the current ones are biased at to get a ball park idea. I have the b+ option on one of my QR's but it is brand new pretty much and won't need tubes for a couple of years as i don't use it everyday and at bedroom volume. I use the one downstairs more as my wife is upstairs most of time lol

I usually have to practice through headphones, any live stuff (especially distorted) gets the wifely kibosh in about 5 minutes. Can't say I blame her though, who wants to listen to someone figuring out a song. :/

When you bias, you want to d your calculations based off of the B+ being off....your bias should be somewhere around 32mA. splawndude did a great video with a step by step tutorial. Let me see if I can find it. Do you have a bias probe?

My B+ Mod isn’t switchable. I have bias probe and am familiar with the procedure. I guess I’ll need to measure the plate voltage or call Scott

Hmm...I’m not familiar with a non switchable B+, so maybe calling Scott might be your best bet. Mine has a switch on the back panel for B+.
Iirc, my plate voltage is around 490 with the B+ off and when it is on it drops to about 425. Which is about where my Marshall is.

Just get the plate voltage reading and go from there. also- In general, as long as you are buying tubes from a reputable distributor and can count on then giving you a matched set to begin with - that is all that matters.
