Hi, name is Tom new to this forum and may be purchasing a Splawn soon. I have a couple of questions. I currently run a 1979 100 watt MKII 2203 master volume Marshall, great sounding head, but in stock form does not boost solos well even with micro amp. The micro amp does boost a little but not the jump in volume I want (tired of soundmen not catching solos) ! I am looking at a QR or Pro Stock. I have watched tons of videos of guys playing these amps, but no-one ever goes through all of the features which is a shame. Simple question is does the solo boost on these amps give a significant boost or not. I don't really use fx loops as my MV marshall does not have one. thanks, for any replies. Tom

Short answer....yes. Longer answer is that you have to find a balance in how high you set the master volume with the QR. The more you push the amp, the less "headroom" is available for the boost to happen. That said, I push the crap out of my QR and still have available volume for the boost, in spades.
I was going to suggest that if you have an FX loop in your Marshall, you would need to run the micro amp there...you would be shocked at the volume boost that pedal gives in a loop. But I see that you said you don't have one....that where you're having the issue boosting. When you put the Micro amp in front of the amp it's essentially acting as a clean boost and won't give you the volume boost you need for solos. I had the same issues years ago as well. I ended up picking up a 1986 JCM 800 in which the previous owner had put in a tube driven fx loop....a buddy of mine explained about putting the Micro amp in the loop and once I tried it the issue was solved.

gtrjunior speaks great wisdom! The solo boost on the Splawns (I have a Street Rod) works great but you have to keep your overdrive channel volume around 10:30 or less for the solo boost to be useful. OD volume over noon renders the solo boost completely ineffective.
Having said that, these amps are INSANELY loud! The loop volume control on the back is great, I use it as a master volume... can get great tones at pretty much any volume. It's just important to keep the OD volume over 9:00 for tone and under 11:00ish for a useful solo boost.
You'll never get a usable volume boost by hitting the front of the amp if you're using distortion... I've used a micro amp and a TC Electronic Spark Boost in the loop of my Blackstar and the Splawn as a clean boost and that approach works great.
