I was reading a few threads over on Rig-Talk lately about shady businessmen in the guitar world (specifically Mark Cameron and David Mills - Mills Acoustics). It made me realize how happy I am with my choice in Splawn.
I don't have lots of money to dump into amps and I'm not an amp flipper. Both of those trades are for others with more cojones than I
Going with a Splawn Quick Rod was a bit of a stretch for me for several reasons. #1) I'm not that good of guitar player lol. #2) I didn't have a ton of money. and #3) buying used amps was not in my plans (I bought mine off Craigslist).
Guess what? I had to call the Splawn HQ to see about this whole half power thing. I don't need 100 watts and I figured I'd get a bit more drive at lower volumes and save on tubes at the same time. When I called the store it was like 6:30 pm EST. I just wanted to leave a message in the hopes someone would call me back. I also didn't expect much as I didn't buy my amp new. I honestly didn't expect to talk to anyone at all.
Guess what?
Scott answered the phone and I didn't know it was him. I honestly assumed I had reached a tech who was working late and kind bored and open to talking about whatever. Not only did he explain the half power thing very well, he also explained how to remove the tube holders with the springy's and asked about my cab my pickups etc etc. I can't remember how long we talked but it was close to an hour.
Imagine to my surprise when I found out at the end of the call it was actually Scott all along. I asked his name because I was going to send in a note thanking the 'tech'.
Thanks again Scott - if you happen to see this.
Sometimes I think about flipping the Splaw to try something else (Friedman JJ100, Mesa Triple Crown, Orange Rockerverb, Marshall Silver Jube, etc).
Then, I'm reminded of this story
What's yours?
