Is it possible to plug my Quickrod head directly into a PA for live performance?

I don't believe so. Unfortunately I can't give you a more detailed explanation since I don't exactly have one. I know my Blackstar has an emulated out jack which allows that amp to go direct to the PA. Even so, there is latency.

I'd be really leery of doing that... you wouldn't want to hook up the speaker outputs to the PA since you could have an impedance mismatch (what is the impedance of the PA channel you'd be plugging into?) You could plug the effects send output into the PA I guess, no impedance issues but it probably wouldn't sound good...
Sounds like you're looking to have a rig without a cabinet true?

Yeah I probably wouldn't try that... possible thermonuclear reaction?

Yeah I probably wouldn't try that... possible thermonuclear reaction? Imagine every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Total protonic reversal. Important safety tip, don't cross the streams!

Is it possible to plug my Quickrod head directly into a PA for live performance? As others have pointed out, the amp needs to be connected to an appropriate speaker load - typically in a cabinet that holds speakers designed for electric guitar that match in ohms and watts to the amp manufacturer's recommendations. Watts on the speakers can be higher but not lower ideally. I am assuming you know this already and are just wondering about the PA part. Are you mic'ing up your speaker cabinet today? Do you have a mini PA or hooking up to random club PA's or what?

Grab a Hughes and Kettner 'Red Box' - it has speaker in and out jacks to run the speaker load THROUGH the Red Box and into your cab. The Red Box converts the speaker signal into line level and sends it out to you PA or mixing console. This is NOT a load box! YOu must run through into a cab or other load!) The Red Box has switches to select open or closed back, 2x12 or 4x12 voicing and sounds absolutely killer. Also - you can take the signal from the 'line out' of any amp and send it through the Red Box for cabinet simulation before plugging into the board. When I played full time, I used a Mesa Mark III. I used the amp's line out into one Red Box and used a pair of speaker cables to send the powered output 'through' a second Red Box. The line out signal was a bit brighter and tighter and the signall off the speaker out was deeper and fuller. Our sound man ran 2 channels of guitar and blended them for the room. For the day, my live guiter tone through the PA was killer. The Red Box that H&K sells today is even more advanced than the ones from yesteryear. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/RedBox5

Never run a Tube amp with out a speaker load. As PDC mentioned above look into the Redbox 5 or a D.I. Box that has the same features.
