I know most of you guys gig actually. I guess my real question is who are my basement wanna be rockers like me? So if you gig, what are you gigging, how often, what tunes, what challenges, what rewards etc. If you are not gigging - what are doing with a Splawn LOL :haha

Unfortunately right now I'm between projects. I'm trying to put something together that I'm hoping will be a little different from what I see from other bands. I want to NOT play all of the same staple songs that everyone else does. Instead, I want to still play popular songs by popular bands but just different stuff. It seems many (not all) cover bands tend to draw from the same pool of 100-150 generic songs. There are so many other awesome songs that I as a player would enjoy and also people in a club would enjoy and want to maybe dance to as well.

Bit late to the party here...I use my Nitro at every gig, all originals & two covers.

Even later to the party! I gig... despite band drama and personnel changes. All covers, we do a lot of standards but we also try to do stuff you don't hear that often. ONly played one gig with my Street Rod but it was a double header (back to back Fri/Sat nights... guess that's two gigs). It's sounding better all the time.

I am trying the same approach you are going for so far its been a bumpy road...

I placed an ad on CL and just about everybody that has responded doesn't have a clue about how the dynamic of a band works. They have little to no experience. Or they are a weekend karaoke singer that thinks "hey, I could be in a band....it will be just like American idol where I'm the star of the show and everyone in the band will play what I want...." Or worst of all is the guys that came up in the grunge era and can only sing in a baritone register....

It's that way here in San Diego too... lots of bands play the usual Mustang Sally, 867-5309, Born to be Wild, Sweet Home Alabama etc...

I think that the problem is that corporate radio force feeds the general public what they want us to hear....i.e. what they want to sell. And the average person just doesn't seek out new music anymore. We just accept what's thrown at us. I know I'm guilty of it too.

Funny you mention the karaoke singers.. LOL you may find a good one but most don't have a clue. Keep up the good fight fellas maybe our prayers will be answered and we will all find what we are searching for.
