Do greenback speakers tend to have a quacky/honk-y tone to them? If so, what are some good Marshall or Splawn speakers that have a more "even" tone.. I just bought a Marshall JVM head, in case that gives you an idea of the tone I'm looking for.

I had a JVM205h and my greenbacks sounded with it. Cleans sounded clear bright and smooth too. Greenbacks will breakup quick but are smooth and warm.
If your looking for a modern metal tone instead of the classic rock 80's tone, you should go with V30's.
It's funny you posted in the Competition forum........i had one and a DSL 50. I now own two Quick Rods and i am finally finished searching for tone!!!

I like standard V30s for modern stuff, they've got good headroom for modern stuff.

I'm happy with the Small Blocks I have in my cab. Greenie flavor at 55W each.

I like the greenbackish tone a lot... I like the more vintage tone though. V30's may be better for modern stuff but to me they sound like harsh garbage to my ears, not into the icepick syndrome. Greenbacks (and their higher powered cousins the Creamback) have the tone I really like, smooth, warm with a touch of edge. My StreetRod has a Creamback in it (stock) and I use a Blackstar extension cab with a greenback in it.
